4 Follicles, but 1 small for IUI tomorrow

Hello Everyone.

I've been undergoing monitoring for my first IUI and received my first HCG shot today with an IUI scheduled for tomorrow and Friday. I'm slightly concerned because today a fourth follicle showed up on my right side. It was only 13 mm today, but could increase in size by the time I ovulate (triggered 7 AM with scheduled IUI for 7:30 am tomorrow). So far my follicles have increased 2-3 mm per day. So as of right now I have a 27, 24, 20 and 13 mm follicles. I know anything could happen (failed IUI, single, twins and OMG triplets!), but I was surprised my RE waited this long to give me the trigger seeming my follicles were a good size yesterday. with one on the large side. Has anyone been triggered with 4 potentially good follicles? Has anyone had an IUI canceled due to a thin uterine lining?

My first IUI (last month) which was a BFN, I triggered on a Sunday night when on Saturday morning I had 5 what they called lead follicles at 20.37,19.56,19.47,16.70 and 15.56. I am older than 35 though, which is why I think we went ahead without discussion. In your case, 3 mature follies with the possibility of a 4th seems normal to me, although some other ladies here might say that is pushing it depending on your individual factors and of course, the super sperm. Do you plan on another u/s before the insem? Are you considering canceling due to the numbers? You don't mention your lining, was that an issue as well?

Hello Waterlily (I love your username): I will have an ultrasound prior to the IUI, but I won't cancel due to four follicles. My uterine lining is at 8.5 and my RE considers 8 to be a good thickness. I think I was just shocked the fourth follicle appeared out of nowhere.

Thanks CaterinaC for your input. I never thought about selective reduction, but will discuss this with DH tonight!

My first IUI, I had 3 or 4 for sure, with 1 potential (close to 14mm). My cycle was a bust, but I was warned about OHSS as a warning. My warning became a certainty. If your RE hasn't discussed this, I'd ask about it. Good luck!

I triggered and did IUI with 4-5 mature follies (the possible one was 16mm when I triggered I think) I had 4 that were 18-21mm at trigger. My uterine lining was 11 prior to trigger. We didn't cancel because I had so many other failed cycles and our issue is MFI. I also agreed that I would be open to selective reduction if the need arose. My cycle ended up being a BFN anyway. My E2 was almost borderline for triggering due to the risk of OHSS but luckily, I didn't get it. Good luck to you!
