Baby clothes

So I find it exceptionally funny that literally everyone told me not to get anything newborn bc he would either be big or outgrow it. Well DH and I just had to buy another newborn sleeper (only had one) bc our ds born at 8.2 and currently 8.8 still fits in newborn gear and the 0-3 m stuff is massive on him lol! There goes to show you those size charts are super flexible! Any other ladies dealing with this?

Re: Baby clothes

  • Yes! Poor little girl went home in an outfit that was way too big on her. DH ran out the day we got home and got some NB sleepers and onesies. Thankfully, a neighbor across the street had a little girl last May and brought over a bag full of NB clothes and warm blueberry muffins last week :)

  • We kinda went through this too. Everyone bought us bigger sizes but LO was born 3 weeks early and she was 6lbs 14oz. She's a skinny little thing but she's long. So NB size footed sleepers are starting to get tight on her but the 0-3 are huge and she pulls her legs up inside then get stuck. What I don't get is some of the outfit choices people get us. Like sleeveless onsies and shorts for 6 months. Uh she was born in May, that would put her in winter for shorts? Have a ton of stuff that will be nowhere near season appropriate.

  • LO was 3 weeks early... I was expecting a big baby and instead I had a 6# baby and no clothes! Had to buy some NB stuff right away too. I guess u never know.
  • Yes! I had a meltdown around day 3 at home because it seemed like we had so little that would actually fit her. We got a lot of 0-3 month and 3 month clothes as gifts - guess folks thought we would have a chunky baby and not this long, slim baby girl! Even some newborn sizes are a little big depending on the brand. Her nb size Halo sleepsack is a no go, she swims in that thing and some of the sleepers she ends up with both legs in one leg hole during the night.

  • Same here! Luckily someone gave away some nb clothes. He's now starting to fit into 0-3. I felt a little unprepared.
  • Baby was born 8.3 and is still wearing newborn size. He has lost some weight due to BF but is still very long! I can put him in some 0-3. I don't get sizing lol.
  • DS was 10.14 and can wear newborn still at 14 days old. He's 22 inches though so the size charts are definitely crap. He's swimming in 0-3 because his legs are long and slim. He's going to be too long for newborn before he's too wide!
  • Same for me too! DD was born 7lbs 10oz and is now probably close to 9, but everything 0-3 months is still big on her! But the NB stuff is starting to get tight around her butt and thighs. Guess she's a little bottom heavy! So we'll probably have to deal with a few weeks of an improper fit. But I definitely had to buy more NB sized stuff, especially sleepers. Hopefully we're all set with the next size.

Everyone said don't buy NB. We had 2 onesies and 2 sleepers. Our little guy was 7 pounds. We had to go out and buy a bunch. Then we discovered how much his diapers would leak and how quickly we would go through clothes. Then we went out and bought even more!
  • Yes! I feel like I should be dressing her a little cuter, especially when we have visitors and all I have in NB size are white onesies and a couple cuter ones. She's 10 days old and has worn the same onesie 3 times :)

Ugh I just went out and spent $80 on clothes. NB sizes are too small (she's long) and 0-3 is still too big. So frustrating!!!
  • Same boat everything!! I had to go buy more newborn sleepers! We also seemed to have a lot of newborn 'outfits' I wish I would have returned a lot of them. She lives in onesies and sleepers.. No need for newborn sized full on outfits!

My thing is then0-3 m pants lol the weather here keeps flopping yesterday was in the 80s so he was ok in just a onsie and some socks and today it's 71 and raining so I need him in a sleeper or pants. I tried 0-3 m
Pants once...was rolling those bad boys up like 4 x and even with a cloth diaper bum they were big! We have 2 newborn pants lol

  • Yep. This was us with DS. We bought nothing in NB size...but then nobody gifted us anything in NB size. So at the last minute I had to buy a few outfits and sleepers for him, which I still caught grief for. But as it turned out, he was in NB size for three weeks (he was an 8 lb baby, so it's not like he was tiny!)! DD is benefitting, though, and is enjoying all of her big brother's NB hand-me-downs :-)

I was ridiculed for buying NB clothes for both babies, but both ended up able to wear them. DS was 9 lb 7 oz and 22 inches when he was born, and he could wear NB onesies and footless pj's for a month. DD is able to wear NB clothes too, even footed sleepers, and she was 9 lb 9 oz and 21.5 inches when she was born. She has a more delicate build than DS did, and she absolutely swims in the 0-3 month clothes. It all just depends on the baby's body shape.

My kids have skinny legs and bottoms so they could even wear NB disposable diapers. DS fit in them for a little over a week and it looks like DD will be in them for at least 2-3 weeks.

  • Yep, I heard this over and over, but since I remembered how DS1 wore newborn for almost a month (he was 7 lb 13 oz), I prepared this time and bought about 5 newborn outfits.

DS2 was 9lb 9oz and he is still in newborn clothes and 0-3 are huge on him.
