How do you feel about shopping cart seat covers?

Baby Steals has them for sale today. What do you think...are they necessary? Overkill?

Re: How do you feel about shopping cart seat covers?

  • I used mine all the time when Peyton was smaller and put everything in his mouth.

  • I have one, and I used to use it all the time (it works for high chairs too) but lately I don't use it.  She does fine without it and it's sort of a PITA to get it in the cart then get her in the cart.
  • I don't know if I'd call them necessary, but I plan to use one. I don't even like touching shopping cart handles myself, and I certainly don't want Sabrina touching one and sticking her hand in her mouth like she always does. *shivers*

Frankly I'd wear latex gloves while shopping if I could, but I think people would stare and make fun of me so I just suffer through holding on to the gross handle. Ick.

Katie you crack me up.  I can totally picture you wearing latex gloves while shopping.

I honestly don't even think twice about germs or any of that....I probably should worry more.

  • I bought one and used it a couple times- it ended up being much more of a PITA than a help...and laundry tends to stick to them when you wash them ; )

I ended up wearing Ty when shopping- it was just a lot easier.

  • I just started using ours a few weeks back in the shopping. I used to carry him in the store (in an ergo), but he's too squirmy now and was much happier in the cart. I don't know that they're really necessary - once you have a crawler, even a germ phobe like me gives up a little (I mean, they are crawling all over the FLOOR then putting their hands in their mouth, so what's a shopping cart handle LOL), but it makes it a cushier ride for M and I can attach a couple toys to it. Ours goes in the high chair too, which is a nice feature. I've put him in the high chair without the cover and he gets super squirmy and tries to twist/climb out, but with the cover he just stays put. So I give it a big YES vote.

  • I used it when she was smaller then I just began forgetting them.  I did use it for eating out too.  I would cover the high chairs with it in restaurants.
  • I don't plan on using one, but I may change my tune after our first shopping trip when she sits in the top part!
  • While I don't think it is necessary, I did buy one and still use it today.

  • I loved the idea and we actually got one as a gift.  But I can count the number of times we actually used it on one hand.  I either forgot to bring it along or didn't want to hassle.  A lot of stores have disinfectant wipes near the shopping cart corrals (is that the right term?), so I'll use one of those if they're available.
  • I used one all the time when they were smaller.  Not only because they tried to put everything in their mouth, but it made the carts so much more comfortable for them.  Now we never use it.
  • Never owned or used one. Just wear the baby and no worries.

  • I used one when Caleb was small and rolled around in the seat. I liked the padding for that. But I could've easily done without too. I used it more often on highchairs in restaurants, but we didn't eat out all that much! I consider it a nice to have, not a necessity.

  • Not necessary, but I also wouldn't say they are overkill either. I probably lean to the germaphobe side of life and I just wipe down the cart with the sani-wipes the grocery stores provide. I always have them in my diaper bag, too, so I use the wipes any time we use a restaurant high chair as well. If you like them and think you would get use out of it, I say go for it.

DITTO!!! Wearing her was always much easier for me.

  • meh.  I'm not a germophobe and I honestly find the alcohol and other ingredients in the saniwipes scarier for Bean's mouth than the handles themselves.  When she was a super chewer, I'd bring a favorite toy with for her to gnaw on in the cart.

  • I had one and used it a handful of times at the grocery store and in restaurant highchairs.  I thought it was a PITA though and it's SO much easier to just plop the kid in the shopping cart (never wore him at the grocery store) or highchair without dealing with a cover.  And I'm guess I'm pretty relaxed when it comes to germs.  So I sold mine on CL.  I don't think they're necessary at all, and more of a hassle than they're worth.

  • Used it maybe twice with Taya. I agree with the pp who said it was a PITA. With Marlena I used it a little bit more, but mostly for the padding. Neither of the girls like to be in baby carriers/worn.

  • I have a hand me down but I don't know if would necessarily buy a new one.

  • I use mine all the time, not so much in the summer, but in the winter, definitly!!  the less germs I can keep off her hands and stuff, the better. I use it every time we go to the grocery, those carts are too germy. and Target is a must. I'm a bit of a germaphobe anyway, so this helps rest my weary mind.

i wash it once a week or so.

mine is a Kozypal cart cover. at first I balked at the price, but the amount of time I have used it, has paid for itself 10 fold.  it has outlasted my sisters cheap-o version from target by over 6 months.

and I don't think they are overkill. especialy when they're young and all they want to do is chew chew chew on shopping carts.  (shudder)
