Trouble TTC

Hi, Ladies!

Hello, Ladies! New to this site, and glad I finally signed up.

Some background: I'm Elizabeth (24), and DH is 30. TTC since winter 2010. Started out the TTC journey NTNP. We had our first MC at 7 weeks in November 2011 that wrecked havoc on my body and put me in the hospital for 6wks enduring 3 surgeries (D&C, appendectomy, laparoscopy). We took a break, and became pregnant again in the fall of 2012. Miscarried our second baby at 12 weeks in November 2012, two years shy of the one year anniversary of our first loss. Needless to say we took a break once more. We traveled, saved money, got things even more in order for the addition of our first child. Also during our break I began seeing an RE. We had every test in the book and no results- labs, perfect, SA, perfect. I had an SIS last May that revealed what the doctor called a septate uterus. She recommended I have a hysteroscopy with septum resection, but due to started a new career that summer, I opted to wait. We got back on the TTC wagon in January of this year with no success to date. On 5/20, I saw my RE's partner for a repeat SIS with the expectation of the septum resection on 5/23. However, he did multiple measurements of the "septum" and looked at my uterus every way possible, and determined that the "septum" was by no means anywhere near the parameters to be considered a septum and that surgery is completely unnecessary. He said my ovaries look perfect, 11 follicles on the L, 14 on the R. He said to go ahead and make this month count. He also said that after looking over EVERYTHING, there's no definitive reason that we miscarried our first two pregnancies.

So, we've kicked it into overdrive this month, really hoping for a little February bundle of joy. I've started using OPK's again, and this is where my frustration comes in. I started using the OPK's on CD8. I have a regular 27/28 day cycle. Days 8-11 yielded negatives. I am pretty certain I O between CD12-14. On the morning of CD12 at 0300, I got the darkest test line of the cycle. We DTD at 0600. We used preseed and soft cups for the first time after bd'ing. By 1830 last night, the OPK test line was very light. I removed the soft cup then. This morning, the test line was barely visible, same for the test I took an hour ago. We may BD tonight if DH isn't too exhausted from work (it's a holiday so that's unlikely) but tomorrow morning is our last shot of this cycle due to work schedules conflicting when my work week begins tomorrow night (just love the crazy work schedules the medical field provides).

Is it possible that I missed my LH surge, and we covered ourselves with BD'ing yesterday morning + using the extras this month? I've had O pain since Saturday night, bloating, a horrid migraine that went away after we DTD, a pimple break out, backache and EWCM since Saturday mid-afternoon. It's also possible my surge is just short, yes? I read a surge of 10 hours isn't all too uncommon? I'll feel better if we can BD either tonight or tomorrow morning, just for peace of mind. I know the swimmers can live 3-5 days and have read amazing stories about the use of the soft cups. I'm hopeful, and I feel optimistic about this month, but the weird results on the OPK's is filling me with unneeded anxiety.

Looking forward to meeting women who understand!

Re: Hi, Ladies!

  • Welcome! Remember the OPKs detect your LH surge and not when you actually ovulate. Most of the time, you ovulate 24-48 hours after the surge. I would definitely BD tonight if you can. I don't continue to test once I've gotten a positive so I have no idea how long my surge lasts.
    Good luck to you!

  • Thank you! DH is still not home from work (we work for a large city FD, so I'm not surprised) but I'm hoping that he's not too tired, haha. As frustrated as I am, I still have an oddly good feeling. But, I've been saying that for a long time.

  • Welcome! I'm sorry for your losses. I'm also sorry you had to go through that rigmarole about a septum that never was!

Testing 2x/day, I've had OPKs stay + for up to around 36 hours, but sometimes I don't even catch them (and my "positives" are almost never darker than the control line, just very close).

With a healthy SA and good cervical mucus, it sounds like your bodies are doing what's needed to make sure motile sperm are ready and waiting for O, and you can feel good about "making this month count."

That said, remember that even the healthiest people with perfect timing still have around a 20-25% chance per month, so keep the faith! :)

If you're still experiencing eggwhite cervical mucus, there is a likelihood that O is still on its way, and it's always good to keep BDing. Good luck!

That's exactly how my positive was this cycle; dark, but not quite as dark as the control line. RE said to count it, so I count it, haha.

Fairly sure O has come and gone. CM was sticky last night and pretty non existent this morning. I used an OPK last night for the heck of it, and the line was BARELY there. Hoping we got it right. BB's are really super sore, which is never something that happens until just before, like day of, AF.

    Next cycle, definitely temping. Ha.

  • Yeah, definitely temp. Then you will know for sure when you're O'ing. Good luck and sorry for your losses!
