I posted a little about this in the Memorial Day Thread.
Yesterday we were at my in-laws cottage on a sound here in Maine. When we got there a seal pup was swimming right against their dock. My FIL explained that it had been there for two days and their neighbor had called the Seal rescue volunteers who would be arriving soon to assess the situation. We stayed back, but watched the little guy and got some up close pictures.
When the volunteers arrived they saw that it still had the umbilical cord attached and was about three days old. It appeared to have been abandoned by it's mother. They tried for about two hours to catch him. Finally, he swam close enough to the dock that one of the volunteers was able to scoop him up. They put him in a crate and brought him up on land. Elijah sat outside the crate and talked to him. Meanwhile the volunteers had to call the Center in Mystic Conneticuit because the center in Maine was recently closed. Unfortunately, Mystic did not have space for the Seal Pup. The volunteers were advised to put him at the high tide mark and check in to see if he was still there in 24 hours and they would assess to see if they could take him at that point. I'm still waiting to find out what happened today from the in laws. I've got my fingers crossed that it all works out for this little guy.
