We finally have our first home visit scheduled. How should we prepare?

After going to the DCF open house in the beginning of February and submitting the application, DH finally got a hold of the correct person to talk to, after calling and being passed around via telephone several times. Our background checks came back at the end of April and were were in a queue to be called. Who knows how long that would have taken if DH hadn't called today. Anyway, we have a home visit scheduled for a little less than a month from now. I'm pretty sure this visit is basically an in-depth interview of all of us, but should we be locking away all of our cleaning supplies and medicine before she comes? Or do we not worry about that stuff until the actual inspection?
Happily married Mom to 2 beautiful little girls, 2 dogs and 2 cats (all rescues), 2 fish and one 29 year-old firebelly newt.
~ Hoping to add to our family by adoption via Connecticut DCF. Application submitted on 2/4/14. First home visit on 6/23/14. Started class 11/17/14.~

    I would ask them, even if it means being passed around. Every HS is different

    We just had our initial home visit. We had the smoke detectors/Co detectors. We didn't have to have the meds/cleaning supplies locked up or certain safety things. We will have another home visit after our classes.

    When I did home studies the parents had to everything done by my last visit not the first.  However, I liked to do a walk through on my first visit so I could see where things stood and if there was anything they needed to fix or anything I needed to double check the standards on.

    In our state, they check for:
    - smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
    - peeling paint
    - general cleanliness
    - bedrooms (if you are going under age 5, the bedroom must be on the same floor as the adults)
    - alternate sources of heat (ie: wood stove), pools, guns - if you have any of those, you have to have a plan for their safe keeping

    I went nuts for all of our home inspections, because i'm crazy like that, but they are really very reasonable. I'm sure you will have no issues at all!
