Bad Sign At OB Today - Anyone else experience this?

So my first appointment- I passed out while they were taking my blood (9 tubes worth! WTH! YIKES!) and also have some bleeding up in there (she said it was "old blood") so it's possible I may have miscarried. They scheduled me for an U/S tomorrow to check. Anyone else have this problem before?

Re: Bad Sign At OB Today - Anyone else experience this?

  • This sounds really weird. What do they mean by "old blood up there"? Did they do a pelvic exam? I think lots of women have old blood from periods or implantation, it doesn't necessarily mean you've miscarried. Do you have any symptoms of miscarriage?

  • I had a seizure from them taken too much blood and not eating breakfast (my last pregnancy). I have a history of them though. The books call it something like a shock seizure. As for the old blood...never heard that before. FX everything is good tomorrow. Let us know.

My Dr ordered up the routine tests last pregnancy and it was about 9 vials too. I only had to do it once.

  • Like others have said, the "old blood" could easily be period or implantation blood!  Thought's and prayers for a good u/s tomorrow!  And I got that much blood too!!  They didn't do that with my first… so that was very different for me too!

NatureLovers She was surprised that I hadn't had spotting before today basically. So not sure what that means. And No, I don't think I have symptoms of a miscarriage although I've never had one before.

mandyreads omg- you poor thing? That sounds terrible. I have a friend who has seizures randomly or when he takes medicine wrong, etc and it's really bad and scary for him... I'm sorry to hear that :/ Thanks for the support.

YaMrWhite No clue!! I was surprised too- asking her why she was pulling so many vials out. I've only had at most 2 taken before. All I could think was "crap dude - this isn't good!" as she laid them down on the tray. She said they do that once for every pregnancy though.

Ktbug613 Yeah- well she's worried about how active I am and thinks I could have exerted my body or something. It's to check and make sure, obviously.

peggels24 Thanks too for the support. Yes- should be an interesting day tomorrow.

I'm new to all of this- so seriously- thank you wonderful ladies SOOO much. It can be scary at times as I'm sure you've all felt at a certain time in your lives too... :)
  • I meant where as in blood in your ute or cervix/vaginal area ?

  • Ktbug613 I'm not sure- I didn't have any spotting so I think ute? Again though, not sure...
  • thumper7912 Yes- hopefully it's something good. Thanks too for your support :)
  • BookitBoo You're so sweet. Thanks :) Yes, hopefully she is just being extra cautious- which I do appreciate and would rather have her be that way than not!

I'm sorry you fainted.  I know how much that sucks.  I am quite the fainter and was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope in my teens.  Basically this is when your body overreacts to certain triggers (such as sight of blood, loss of blood or even anxiety) and causes you to lose consciousness .  Many, many woman have a smaller variety of this and don't even know it.

It sounds like they were taking a lot of blood, so it is possible that your body had a similar reaction.  I've fainted after having blood-work and cortisone shots in the past and the drs. and nurses were not even surprised as they had all seen it before.

I hope you U/S goes well tomorrow and you can take that deep sigh of relief...

  • @cpoggio‌ I have that too. Hubs calls me a fainting goat. Pain or dehydration triggers mine.

  • Lol Fainting Goat! Love that!

I've had blood taken many times before and never had a problem so yes- I def think it was something with the amount of blood they took. I started dripping sweat like crazy then conked out- woke up with wet towels all over me and the nurse + doctor + check-in lady trying to shove water/orange sugary liquid/rice cakes down my throat/ fanning me. I was too nauseous for a couple of minutes to take anything though besides water. End of story- all is alright now and I won't have to do it again unless we have another kid. Thankfully!
