First ultrasound?

I'm about 7w2d right now. My hubby and I found out the day before Mothers Day that we were expecting and I went and had a blood test to confirm that I was pregnant 2 days later and after I got those results they had me make an appointment with the OB, she couldn't see me till the 9th of June at the earliest...

I still have a week and a half till my appointment and it's killing me waiting this long! I'll be 9 weeks when I have my first appointment. I keep hearing that sometimes when you have an ultrasound earlier that you can't see much anyways so I can understand why they make you wait... I'm just frustrated that I haven't been able to see what's going on down there! The wait is killing me!

At how many weeks did you ladies have your first ultrasound?

My OB doesn't do an u/s until 12 weeks unless he thinks there is a problem

It's normal to have a 1st u/s around 8-10 weeks, and in some cases even later, unless there is a history of loss or other high risk issues. I've had 5 u/s so far and my 1st was a 5weeks4 because I had an ectopic before. I understand it gives peace of mind to have an early u/s, but 9 weeks will be here before you know it!

P.S...thought I was posting on Dec BMB! Will leave post, but didn't want to look weird for posting randomly !

Did you ladies have any previous appointments with your OB before the initial ultrasound? How would they know if something was wrong if they haven't checked? This is my first pregnancy so this is all new territory for me...

With DD I didn't have an u/s until 12 weeks. My second pregnancy, we did a dating at 7weeks and then a follow up for a polyp at 10 wks (miscarried). This time around this doctor (different from my first two pregnancies since I've moved) has a machine in office and did one at my first appointment (5w ish) They just saw a sac. I have another appointment in a week (8w) for a follow up. I almost wish we didn't do one so early!

With DD it was 8 weeks. With this pregnancy it will be 8w3d. With my twins that I lost it was 8w5d. She always does a viability scan but some drs don't.

With my first, it wasn't until 12 weeks or so. With my second, not until 18 weeks. With my 3rd pregnancy (and subsequent loss), I had an u/s at 6w3d. This time around, my appointment is right at 6w3d again, and my doc always does a dating/viability ultrasound. Hoping to see the heartbeat this time around!

I was 7 weeks 2 days and yes, they had to do a vaginal ultrasound to actually see anything. I was supposed to be seen at 8 weeks 3 days but I changed my doctor so I was able to be seen earlier.

I had my U/S done at 6+4 then was dated for 7+2. I only had mine done then cuz they thought I was 10 weeks.

Some women don't get one until they're halfway through!

At my practice, if you opt out of the NT scan you don't get an ultrasound until 19/20 weeks or so. I opted in, so my first will be at 11 weeks.

@chelcmariedelvalle‌ this means people with a history of problems not solely this pregnancy, with dd and ds my first was an elective one at 12 weeks with this one a new practice I had one yesterday at 8.5 weeks it was pretty cool but it was a dildocam not as cool.

@jennmikemcc gave a good reason, but if you had really bad spotting or something occur, they might also check you earlier.

I had an appointment when I was about 6 weeks, but it was with the nurse and more informational than anything else. My first appointment with my OB/first heartbeat check will be next Friday, so just under 10 weeks.

My OB insists on an early 6-7 week ultrasound to rule out ectopic. She feels that more women's tubes can be saved this way and sometimes some women have no symptoms until it's too late. Every dr. is different though.

Christeng87 it sounds like you got your first ultra sound and had your due date adjusted slighlty? I had my first ultrasound last Thursday and from my last period they had estimates me at 7 weeks 2 days - but with the ultra sound it seems like I was really 6 weeks and 5 days ( 4 day adjustment of my due date) My doc scheduled me for another US in 2 weeks to be sure

I will be 8.5 weeks, my doctor will see you anywhere from 8-10 weeks. As annoying as it is, I am kind of glad because I like knowing I should see something. There is really no guess game because I went to early!

Sounds normal to me. My practice will do a dating ultrasound relatively early, which I had yesterday at 8w, but I won't see the OB until end of next month.

chelcmariedelvalle I wont be getting my first us until 18 weeks. So 9 weeks isnt that long at all comparatively!

I just had my first appointment today with the nurse and then on Friday is my first appointment with the dr and my first ultrasound to date everything. As far as I know, I think I'll be about 7 weeks then, but I could be due earlier..

Mine won't be until about 19 weeks but they'll do the Doppler earlier to listen for the heartbeat.

Thank you for all your replies, it seems like it just depends on the doctor from what I'm reading... I guess I'll just have to wait and see what's going on when I go on the 9th

I had a "dating" u/s right after I found out I was pregnant (I was able to get in the next day, but I do live in a small town, so that probably helps ). They wanted to do that because according to my LMP date, I would have been about 8 weeks. I told them that I knew I was only 5-6 weeks at the most, but they had me come anyway. Which was totally fine by me! The doctor figured I was 5 wks 2 days at my u/s. It was fun, even though all we could see was a little round "sac".

My next u/s is on Friday! I will be 8 wks 3 days. My first prenatal apt is on 6/10.
