Periurethral Lacerations.. HELP!

I got a 2nd degree laceration.. It aches. The peri bottle is my best friend when I pee.. The sitz bath helps.. And witchhazel pads provide relief for about an hour. I'll even pop a Motrin here and there. But I need some serious relief. I've never torn before so I have zero clue what else I can do. So if anybody has experience.. PLEASE PLEASE help me out here!!

Re: Periurethral Lacerations.. HELP!

  • Honestly, that's about all you can do. Using an ice pack will help, too. I was Motrin fanatic. I took it every six hours like clockwork to stay on top of the pain. It will get better!

  • I was given a tube of magical numbing stuff...I'd stick a bunch on a cold tucks pad and it worked wonders.  It was given out at the hospital, though, so I have no idea what it's called!  Sorry!  Maybe call and ask your doctor what kind of numbing agent you can use?  Other than that, what you're doing is it, plus advil.  Hope it gets better soon!

  • I had bad 2nd degree tears due to forceps being used for my first childbirth. Ice pads were the best ever, also soft pillows or a donut thing to sit on helped a lot too. I used my peri bottle all the time. Other than that only time will help. Good luck, I know it's tough. Hopefully I am spared this time around

  • Hmm.. I didn't even think of ice pack.. Or pillow.. Lol. But I think I'm going to give it a try. @Lilygrace48‌ I'll definitely have to ask my doc about that.. It sounds amazing!
  • @TonyaCody06‌ Can I get that OTC?

My hospital gave me that Dermoplast and it seriously helps a lot. I have been seriously achy today and I think it was all the uncomfortable chairs I've been sitting on. Every day I've started off swearing that I'm going to take it easy and I end up exhausted by the end. Good luck and let me know if you figure anything out! I could use it :)

  • Ice packs, witch hazel pads, sitz bath and stool softeners. It completely sucks, but after about 4-6 weeks it starts to feel better. I had an episiotomy with my first and it took 2 months to heal/not hurt when I sat down.
  • And always use your squirt bottle while peeing- it cuts the acidity. Peeing seriously made me want to cry...or swear a blue streak.

  • I had a 3rd degree tear with my DD - labial and perineal.  That HURTS.  Use your sitz as frequently as recommended and the peribottle with every potty break.  Icing will help too and a nice fluffy pillow to sit on.

If you're still really uncomfortable a few days post partum, call your doctor and ask to have it checked.  With DS #1 I had a 3rd Degree episiotomy and a ton of stitches.  I had some stitches come out early and ended up with an infection that had to be cleaned out (OUCH) and then cauterized (DOUBLE OUCH).

  • Dermoplast was my best friend to...just make sure to get the blue label not the red one, it won't burn when you spray.
  • dermaplast or earth mama angel bottom spray!

it'll help numb it. The hospital sent me home with ice pack pads after I had DD #1. They told me to crack the ice pad so it got cold, line the pad with tucks and then spray it with dermaplast. It offered some sweet relief!
