Taggies?

I want to make Taggies (little square piece of fabric with ribbon) for my baby on the way... I've never seen a baby actually play with them/ use them, I just think they are cute.  What is your opinion on Taggies?  Worth it or worthless? How many would you suggest having/ making?  Thanks!

Re: Taggies?

  • I have a couple. One I bought at a craft show and another was made for me by a friend. I think as long as they are sewn properly and only used under supervision, they are fine. I guess I haven't seen any LOs with them either, they must be a new trend. I've even seen onesies with them sewn into the front!

  • DS had one and loved it! He was always sucking and chewing on it!
  • We were gifted one (not handmade).  To me, it's just like any other lovey.  Either the kid will get attached to it or they won't.  DS has at least 6 different loveys, none of which he seems particularly attached to, he just grabs whichever one is closest.
  • Here's a picture of one online.. I think they are adorable and would be easy to make! I just don't want to have useless items laying around simply because I think they are cute! Thanks ladies for your replies!

  • My niece had one which she loved, I'm pretty sure she still carries around sometimes. DS never had a taggie, but always looked for the tags on items to suck on which are similar to ribbon.

  • It was worthless to DS.  He never had a single comfort item...besides my boobs.

  • DS had a taggie ball like the one pictured above and a floor mirror with a taggie frame. They were some of the first things he liked playing with (especially the ball) b/c he could grab them pretty easily no matter how they landed when he flailed his arms.

This time around I'm going to make a taggie blanket and attach a velcro loop or something so it can be a car seat toy. I'd also like to make a couple of cloth "quiet books" with different textures.

DD never really attached to hers. Now she uses it as a blankie for her babies :p

  • DD had 3, she loved rubbing the ribbon between her fingers and on her cheek. All of ours were also minky fabric so she cuddled the blanket part as well.

  • We were given one as a gift for DS and he wasn't phased by it. Now, his giraffe lovey is another story! At almost 3 1/2 he doesn't leave home without it and we have 2 back ups of it!

I made some when ds was a baby and he liked them I made them for gifts as well when I sewed them I would triple stitch inside and then double stitch around outside when I turned the inside out to ensure the ribbon wouldn't budge great sensory item for little ones but again like all toys and such not every kid likes them
  • My DS has one and loooves it. He never took a pacifier or anything so it's definitely his security item. It was one of the first things I bought for LO on the way bc "woobie" is so special to DS.

  • DS had a couple he slept with at one point. Wasn't super attached but he liked to play with the ribbons.
  • My DD loved Taggies. If you make one, you can choose ribbons of different textures. That's one of the reasons for the tags, sensory type goals. I think it's worth it :)

  • We had one for DS and he was not interested in it at all. But my cousin's baby loves it so just depends I guess!

  • I made some taggie animals for LO. Hoping he loves them because they were kind of a PITA to make! I just picked complicated animals (note: a seahorse with a curled tail is a bad idea), but they did turn out really cute!

  • We had one that had a crinkle fabric inside so it made noise and DD loved it!

  • My oldest seemed to know the difference between manufactured tags and the ones that were true tags. IMPOSTORS!
