I was at work this morning, running around pretty good. I felt crabby and a little under the weather, but not so much sick. I had went in at 11:30 and since it was just after 7 and I get to go home at 9, I was in the home stretch and ready to run. I sat down to do some paper work and all of a sudden the nausea hit me like a tidal wave. I haven't had any m/s for a little over a month now, so it really caught me off guard. I was horrified when I puked up what looked to be about a quarter cup of blood, and then I kept feeling it drip in my throat and kept spitting it up. I quietly excused myself to call on-call and explain the situation. He sent over back up so I could leave. Since it was after 7:30 before I got out of the building I went home and took a quick shower and just called my OB's nurse line. I was really just hoping to come up for an office visit.
She said since it was bright red and I was still spitting up some to go to the ER to be assessed, and try not to freak out(lol tell a pregnant lady to go to the ER and not freak out.. what a joke). I got up there and of course they did the "oh crap this lady is pregnant!" dance, and DH is freaking out and emotionally preparing for the worst, I am just mostly exhausted. An IV bag, 3 vials of blood, and a urine sample later and they see that somewhere in the 10 days between now and my last appointment I developed a pretty serious UTI, and they were surprised I hadn't started running a fever or having any other major symptoms. I got given drugs and told that they think the nausea was the infection, and the blood was just because I had ripped up somewhere in the top of my stomach retching while I puked. I still am a little freaked that they didn't check anything further, but I do have a follow up at the end of the week with specific instructions to call in if I continue to vomit blood. I haven't since I got home.
Good news is the minion is fine.. got to hear a nice steady loud heart beat. I'm still super frustrated that I couldn't have waited for the doctors to come in for an office visit though, since they determined it was nothing super serious. Also I haven't had a UTI in over 6 years. Weird. DH tried to take the whole day off instead of going to work after they released me and I got my meds, I kicked him out the door and told him to stop fussing, that I would call if something happened. As soon as he got home he was waking me up and checking to make sure I was okay, which was sweet but sort of annoying.
Anyway I just needed to get the whole ordeal off my chest, I can't really tell anyone about it without them all freaking out. Thanks for reading the ramble.
