We plan to go back to the same photographer who did his newborn photos...she offers a smash cake session and then does adorable photos in an old time bath with bubbles and such. You get a bunch of 1 year old pics too of course
We will probably give him a cupcake to smash at his birthday as well just for fun We will have a bunch of kids all around the same age so it'll be cute to get them all destroying cupcakes together
We'll be doing a smash cupcake for her birthday and then a smash cake photo session with our photographer. We've been having professional photos done every 3 months or so to make a story board of her first year, the smash cake will be the final picture.
I voted yes definitely. We're about a month and a half from DD's party, so we're in full planning mode. I'll be making her cake - lady bug theme, so will make a lady bug on it. The guests will have a store cake though - a delicious one with peaches and strawberries in it. YUM!
Wow I just realized we are just over 2 months away from his party (August 2). Holy shit. I will probably make him a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and something on top for decoration. That will be for the party. We are not doing any kind of professional photos or anything like that.
We are doing a smash cake...I have yet to decided on type, color, frosting, size, flavor...LOL...still a work in progress. We only just put together her actual birthday plans a few weeks ago...
We are doing cake smash photos. The photographer supplies the specialized cake from a bakery. I'm hand making her cake smash outfit. As for her party, she'll get a slice of the regular cake to play with.
We are doing it for her birthday shoot, the day before her birthday. Not sure what flavors...maybe vanilla cake with strawberry frosting? I may ask my aunt to make it for us, she did our wedding cupcakes and my baby shower cupcakes, she makes amazing stuff! Design, I haven't a clue yet...Pinterest here I come!
I'm planning a pink lemonade party and this is my idea for the cake. One of MH's coworkers used to be a professional pastry chef and she's making it for us! I'm thinking the top will be the smash cake.
We are doing one for the party and (probably) one for pro pics the day before. I will be making it. We are doing a (Pinterest-inspired) Cheerios theme. And I am in love and obsessed with it. Haven't decided on which cake we will use yet. The other guests will get cupcakes.
In a separate large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg together.
Add the mashed bananas, applesauce, and vanilla to the flour mixture. Mix just until incorporated. Beat two egg whites until you receive a cone when pulling out the whisk, fold in carefully the beaten egg whites.
Spray your 8 or 9″round pans with non-stick cooking spray or coat with butter and flour.
Spread the batter into the bottom of both pans.
Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
Cool the cakes, then use an overturned 16oz glade storage round to cut out 4 small cake rounds.
Prepare the frosting, add in between each layer 2 tbsp. of your cream cheese mixture. When all layers are stacked on top of each other, cover the cake with the remaining frosting and decorate as desired.
For The Frosting
Soften the cream cheese.
Whisk the cream cheese with the apple sauce and vanilla extract until creamy.
I'll be making N's smash cake. My plan is to make a blue frosting ruffle cake, sort of like this - with a pedant banner that says "ONE".
However, I do love this look too - it just doesn't match our theme, unless I did it with just blue & green sprinkles...
FTR: He'll have 2 smash cakes. One for his 1st birthday photo session and another at his actual birthday. I'll be making both.
We're on the same wave length. I've been trying to teach myself some simple decorating techniques. I plan to practice the ruffle one this weekend. The icing will most likely be yellow though. Like Nicholas, S will have two; one for pics and one for the party. The guests will be getting cupcakes. I haven't decided on homemade or store bought for those. But I already have the banner topper for her cake and will be purchasing a print suite that includes items to make cupcake toppers. I also just hit up Hobby Lobby and found something to use for her cake stand.
I will make her smash cake. I can't justify paying for it. I am buying her actual birthday party cake though so I plan on making her smash cake to match that one.
DS2 will just have a slice of the regular birthday cake to play with. Knowing his chunky butt he would eat the whole smash cake! Gotta exercise portion control for him. I haven't decided what cake the boys will have for their bday. I'm sure it will be dictated by DS1s interests at the time, our families live out of state so we are having a large party for both my august babies. So DS2 will probably be eating a white cake with truck theme.
We are not doing any cake smashing photos in his one year session. Just not my thing.

I was just thinking of recipes. I would prefer it to have a small amount of sugar so I'm on the lookout for toddler friendly recipes.
