Response to Clomid? *Previous child mentioned*

Hi ladies,

I hope my question is appropriate here. As I explained in my last post (thanks again!), you are not allowed to post to Secondary Infertility during your first medicated cycle, which I am still completing. I hope as long as I post warnings my questions and comments are welcome.

I became pregnant with my daughter on my third round of Clomid. At the time, I was using OPKs, but not trigger shots. This time, it's both. I do not ovulate or menstruate naturally, so I did a couple weeks of BCP while finishing initial testing. This led to a very light/short period after I stopped. So my (kind of) Cycle Day 1 was Sunday, May 18th. I started Clomid that Tuesday and took the last dose the evening of Saturday (May 24). I went in for an ultrasound this morning (May 27) and was told "nothing there yet" before the doctor rushed out the door. They do same-day bloodwork results, and left a message on my voicemail saying that I am not responding to the Clomid yet, to come back on Friday morning, and if I'm still not responding they might give me another dose. Obviously haven't done the trigger yet...

Anyway, I'm wondering if it's normal not to have a Clomid response at this stage (three days after stopping)? When I did OPKs I remember ovulating on the later side. I'm a little worried at the lack of follicles, but also think it might be early to expect any? I am not temping; maybe I'll start next cycle if this one results in BFN.

I'll ask on Friday, but in the meantime I guess I need a little reassurance (or honesty!)

    My doctor told me it take 5-7 days to respond to the clomid.  I took mine May 18-22, went in today (5 days after last pill) and have 3 follicles and they triggered me. 
    Me 39, DH 40
    Male Factor (severe oligospermia) 
    IVF#1-December 2013: Conversion Protocol @ SIRM, Canceled on day 10 of stims due to poor response
    IVF#2- February 2014:  Estrogen Priming Conversion Protocol @ SIRM (ER 2/22: (9R, 7M, 4F, All arrested, nothing to trasnfer)
    IUI#1-May 28, 2014- 100mg clomid, HCG Trigger, 100mg progesterone oral--BFN
    IUI#2-June 24, 2014- non medicated, HCG 2,500mg x 4 doses (over a week), Endometrium- BFN
    Suprise BFP- September 1, 2014- miscarriage at 5 weeks.

    From what I have gathered, most people show at least some response (10-12mm follicles, maybe) fairly early in their cycles. Your monitoring appointment was a little on the early side though (if my calculations are right it was CD 9 for you?). I normally went in at CD 10 or 11. 

    So, that is what happens for many people. I didn't respond well to Clomid for either of my cycles though. So, what happened was, about 4 or so says after my first round of Clomid ended, I would start another round of 5 days of Clomid at 50mg higher than the round before. Both times I did this, I did eventually end up with 1 mature follicle. So, it's definitely not an ideal response, but it is still possible that you will ovulate. If they stair-step you like that, you would probably start at the higher dose the next cycle, if needed.

    Methotrexate on 8/12/14 -HCG negative on 9/2/14
    IVF #1- November- Antagonist protocol: 11/1: start stims, 200iu of Follistim; 11/12 ER 17R/14M/14F; 11/17 5 day transfer of two blasts, 2 blasts and 2 expanding morulas frozen; 11/22 BFP!! (On FRER at 5dp5dt)
    Betas: 9dp5dt 205, 11dp5dt 497, 14dp5dt 1,709
    u/s at 5w0d- 1 sac; u/s at 6w0d 1 baby with heartbeat, another sac without a heartbeat

    On BC till end of 2009.  2010 NTNP.   

    New Year’s Eve 2010—BFP?! January 13, 2011—early loss, HCG peaked at 324, no D&C needed.

    Dec 2012 --present (TTC 20 months) Not even a hint of a BFP

    Me:  BW, U/S, HSG, HSN normal.  AMH 2.33.  Hubs: SA normal

    Breaking till after Christmas, then IVF...taking 4000 mgs daily Inositol and Melatonin 3mg

    Thank you! The nurse called today with more bloodwork results (my prolactin is now in the normal range after going back on meds for a prolactinoma! Yay!) and I asked her to clarify the findings from yesterday's US. Although the doctor said "nothing yet," I actually had several very small follicles, 8 or 9 on the right and 2 or 3 on the left. So, better than "nothing" in my non-expert opinion :)

    I'll update here on Friday!

    On my 6th cycle of clinic, it took me longer to respond than before and longer than any natural cycle I've ever had. I usually am ready to trigger by day 10 or 11 but that cycle on day 11 I was not even close. I didn't end up O'ing until day 16 (pretty late for me). But my nurse said it was fine and every once in a while it can take your body longer to respond. The next cycle they increased my dose and my O was back to normal. Good luck!

    Me (35) no known issues DH (37) MFI. TTC 21 months (24 cycles)
    Dx MFI with low to normal count, low motility, morphology 3%
    HSG normal, ultrasound and labs on me all normal. 

    1 cycle of Clomid 50mg and TI, unmonitored by OBGYN= BFN
    1 cycle of Clomid 50mg and IUI, unmonitored by OBGYN= BFN
    Started seeing an RE!!
    2 more cycles of clomid 50mg (great response), with IUI and Pregnyl trigger (4.8-8 mil good ones after wash) = all BFN
    1 cycle of clomid 50mg (3-7) followed by Follistim 75iu (7-11) + IUI = BFN
    December 2013 DH saw urologist and is taking Anastrozole, CoQ10, and L-Carnitine
    IUI #5 natural cycle (needed a med break) = BFN
    IUI #6 Follistim 75iu (CD3-10) + Pregnyl (CD11) + IUI (final count after wash 300K) = BFN
    IUI #7 Follistim 75iu (CD3-9) + Pregnyl (CD11) + IUI on 2/20 (post wash count 12.5 million)= BFN
    IUI cancelled (DH OOT) Clomid 50mg (CD3-7) 1 follicle +(not well timed) TI = BFN
    IUI #8 and last one!! Clomid 100mg (CD3-7) +OPK before US + IUI 4/17 (post wash 8.5 mil)= BFN

    Pre-IVF testing complete! SHG great and measurements taken! Labs for infectious diseases completed, FSH (5.4), TSH (1.6), Prolactin (11), AMH (2.6), Estradiol (40).

    Started BCP 5/29 and Lupron 6/11 prep for IVF #1! Started follistim 225u/day on 6/28. Monitoring on 7/2 >15 follicles measuring 11-14, E2 758. Monitoring on 7/5 all ready to go!! Great follicle sizes and lining is at 9. Tigger 7/5, ER 7/7 16R 9M 3F. Stimmed too fast in just 7 days. 7/10 3dt of 2 8-cell grade 2 & 4. 7/14 P4 >60.
    Holy crap BFP!!!
    Beta #1 (14dpo) 7/21 112 Beta #2 (16dpo) 7/23 286 a Beta #3 (18dpo) 7/25 761 Beta #4 (21dpo) 2631!!! Hold on tight little embies!!      First Ultrasound 8/7- 1 perfect little bean with a beating heart 117bpm!! EDD 3/30.
    Second ultrasound 9/2 Little bean measuring a few days ahead with a heart rate of 161!

    Thanks again ladies. The ultrasound this morning showed that my follicles still haven't grown a lot. The biggest one was only 8 mm. After checking the bloodwork, they did find my estrogen is rising (although obviously still not high enough), so they didn't prescribe me more Clomid today. I'm going to go back on Monday morning for yet another ultrasound to see if I responded by then.

    Uh, all this waiting is the worst.
