Finally sitting down at a computer long enough to do this.
Super short version: Graham Jonathan was born via C-section on May 1 at 8:42am weighing 7lbs, 2oz, and 20 inches long.
Longer version:
I was scheduled for a C-section on May 1. I was not given the option of a VBAC due to two previous C/S. The night before I was so excited and nervous I did not sleep AT ALL. Not even for a few minutes. We had to be at the hospital at 6am, so I finally just go up around 4:30, showered, and finished packing the final few things. DH got up and finished packing his bag as well. My MIL was already at our house to stay with our two older boys.
We arrived at the hospital and checked in and changed into my lovely hospital gown. They drew some blood and got an IV started after moving me to a different triage area because the computer in the one I was originally in wasn't working correctly. Next I was moved to the recovery area where a little more prepping was done and we waited for my OB to arrive, who had called to say he was running a little behind. When he arrived he stopped in to say hello, and then they wheeled me down to the OR. I chatted with the nurses and midwife about baby names and my previous job as a teacher. We joked about a few things and the atmosphere was really comforting! Getting the spinal went smoothly, and as soon as it was in DH was allowed in the room. He sat by my head while they got everything ready for the first incision.
I didn't feel much at all until they did whatever they do to open the incision into the uterus wide enough to get the baby out. That was much more uncomfortable than I remember my two previous C/S being. Next thing though there was a tugging sensation and I heard LO's VERY LOUD cry! It brought tears to my eyes immediately. My OB told me later that the first cry I had heard was before they had even gotten him all of the way out of my uterus. They brought him over for me to see once the cord was clamped, did his vitals, and then DH was able to hold him while I was sewn back up, which went very smoothly. Once that was done they took me back to the recovery area where I was able to do some skin-to-skin with Graham and nurse him for the first time. Overall, pretty uneventful, but I am ok with that! :-)
Graham will be four weeks old this week and is doing great, other than still having a little bit of trouble with latching sometimes when he nurses (too shallow), which is still causing me some pain. We've been working with a lactation consultant though, and it seems to be getting better slowly. My recovery has been great- by far the easiest of the three C/S I have now had.
We are so thankful for another healthy baby boy, and so in love! Your heart truly gets bigger with each new addition to your family!
