*New Here* Intro

Hello! I am new to The Bump and thought I would introduce myself.
My name is Jessi, and I am 26.
Married 3 years, and TTC for 2 with no luck.

I recently went to a new GYN who preformed LAP procedure and found extensive ENDO. He also flushed my tubes (HSG) and performed bloodwork.

Bloodwork showed very low progestrone levels, meaning I have Anovulatory cycles.
I am really heartbroken, but he prescribed Clomid. 50mg to start. My next cycle is this upcoming week, and I will begin my first cycle.

I have told no one close to me as I fear the worst. But I wanted to go somewhere to talk, and figured this was my best bet!

Who here is taking Clomid? What should I expect?

Re: *New Here* Intro

  • Welcome and good luck. I've only taken Clomid once so far for testing. I didn't have any side effects other than some moodiness. I've read that it can cause hot flashes though.

  • Welcome and good luck. Is your Gyn providing monitoring with the Clomid? I have never taken it, but no monitoring with any fertility med isn't a good idea. If your doc doesn't, or even if he/she does, it is a good idea to find a good RE to work with.

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

  • @StacyLH24‌ Monitoring as in Ultrasounds to check for follicles?
He is not...however, I am a sonographer and perform ultrasounds for a living. I can check myself during off times at work, however, I am looking for a RE now since my GYN does not specialize in Infertility treatments.
  • @DaydreamSam‌ Thank you....yes, we've quiet for a long time. Actually, I just wrote a new post about that hah. We were kind of in denial actually, but I knew something was not right, and now it has been confirmed.

Yes, I do love my job! It is great to see so many pregnant women overjoyed, but the flip side...there are many who are too young and naive (seen as young at 13!!) Or people who wish they werent pregnant or shouldnt have even reproduced to begin with! That really irks me to know end, bc I would kill to be in their position. Isnt it funny how that works out sometimes? I will keep you all posted on the Clomid :)
  • @Jessi828‌ - Yes, that's what I meant. It's good you have access to check. That sounds a little...complicated to try and check yourself. All of my ultrasounds have been transvaginal. I can't imagine trying to do that myself and then measure them as well.

@StacyLH24‌ yes, TV is the best way to view them accuratley. I would not be able to do that on my own haha. Which is why it will be best for me to see a RE and have them do this. I could fill my bladder and check Transabdominally myself in the meantime. Enlarged follicles should appear TA as well if they are large enough. But TV is always optimal
  • Welcome, I hope the Clomid works great for you!

I think we are all in awe of a real sonographer in here. I'm sorry you have to be up close and personal with all those "unfair" pregnancies in your line of work.

Good luck choosing an RE. We love ours and it makes such a difference feeling like we are in good hands and can let go of the reins now.

I'm sorry you don't have people IRL that you can talk to about IF, but at the same time, it's true that it's easier to be careful and thoughtful about who to tell than to take back the knowledge from someone who it turns out is not supportive!! As we got less in denial and less ashamed (largely thanks to a few months on this board), we have started getting more casual about mentioning it to people.

  • I did 5 cycles with Clomid.  I would get a neckache off and on during the 5 days I took the pills.  It was annoying, but not too bad.  Also, I feel like it made me irritable, which is not good when you have a full day of patients to see.  The ovulation pain could be intense too.  Clomid obviously didn't work for me, but I hope you have better luck.

Ditto on working with an RE instead of an GYN.  I did the clomid cycles with my GYN only to find out that I ovulate fine on my own.  Did you have any symptoms of endo (other than infertility)?  My RE thinks that could be my problem.
    Me: 29, DH: 31
TTC since May 2012, married since 7-08-06
    Me: irregular cycles, possible endo
DH: bilateral varicoceles (surgically corrected on 12-13-13)
Treatment: 3 cycles of Clomid alone, 2 cycles with Clomid and IUI
    HSG Feb. 14:  all clear
    1st appointment with RE 3-20-14
2nd appt with RE: normal postcoital test, u/s showed a large follicle the day after I got a positive OPK, most likely problem is endo :(
2nd HSG May 14: My RE used a dye that is supposed to help calm down inflammation from endo

Hi Jessi! I'm sorry you find yourself here. I'm new to this board, too.

On the flip side of not having anyone IRL to talk to, we told too many peopl when we first started trying a year ago and now it's pretty awkward. I hadn't seen a friend since last fall, and saw her today and she immediately put her hand on my stomach and asked "are you pregnant yet?!" I know she meant well, but it stung. :( If I could go back, I wouldn't have told anyone we were trying.

I don't have experience with Clomid, but I wish you luck in your first medicated cycle and your search for an RE!

  • @BunnyBerry‌ Thank you :) I do think this board is going to help me a lot. You ladies seem very sweet and supportive, but most importantly understanding of the situation. I do hope we find a great RE who can answer all of our questions. I am glad you love yours!!
  • @mountaineer23‌ Yea, so far I have read online of people getting moody and hacing hot flashes. Doesn't sound appealing, but anything to hopefully get a BFP.
I knew I wasnt ovulating, bc I have never experienced that "egg white" or mucus, or seen it on my underwear like some ppl. The bloodwork confirmed that.

As for the endo-- yes! To backtrack a bit, I started my cycle age 11, and by 13 was on Birth Control to control my cycles and gyn wanted to do LAP for endo back then, but my mother refused.
I was very irregular, but when I did get my cycles I would have excruciating stabbing pains in my stomache and uterus, instantly get a flush of heat throughout my body, and (TMI) go diaherra and vomit...but the worst part was the pain was so severe my body would go into shock and I'd eventually pass out. This would happen the first 2 days of my cycle-every cycle!

I have since been on various birth controls from age 13 - 25. Stopped Dec of 2011 Began TTC Feb 2012. So it been a bit over 2 years. I was starting to get the dibilitating pains again. That is when I went to a new GYN. He did a Lap and found adhesions all over my uterrus and overies and some attached to my rectum. He didnt see my tubes blocked with adhesions but flushed me out with HSG just in case.

Endo is only diagnosed through LAP, I would discuss this option with your RE. Better to find out sppner than later.
  • @ashtownyeah‌ thank you for the goodluck! Yea, that is my fear is people saying something meanings to be sweet or understanding, but instead it would be like dagger to me. I did go ahead and tell my brother and sister as I am veru close to them. They both recieved it very well and promosed to be tight lipped and not tell anyone including my mother. I am not quite ready to tell her yet. They did make some comments like "we thought you were never going to have kids!" And "cant wait to be an Aunt next month" (like it's that easy
...they are looking on the positive side) We shall see :) I dont plan to tell our friends bc nobody keeps secrets in our group!
  • @AnnaClaire256‌ Thank you! I hope I am lucky like you and dont get side effects. I get AF on Mon or Tues so i will keep you guys posted thos upcoming week
  • @packerfan4life‌ No, DH has not had a SA done. I a m searching for a reputable RE so I can be monitoretd properly and get DH checked as well !
