Braxton Hicks Question

I have had cramping for almost a day straight. I'm 32 weeks along. Drinking water and lying down do help the cramps to subside. But, as soon as I sit up or start to walk around they come back. It's just a constant ache, like menstrual cramps. I do have sharp pains as well but they are intermittent. I don't want to go to the hospital unless it's really necessary.Anyone else having this or any experience with this?

Re: Braxton Hicks Question

  • I've definitely been having more cramping the last week or so and it gets worse when I start doing more. I also get more BH when I stand up but it's on and off. Both the BH and cramps go away with rest so I've never called. Plus it seems most times it's at least somewhat related to my bowels... No grand advice but youre not alone and I'm Interested to see what others say.

  • I called the other night after having 6-7 BH contractions in one hour.. The doctor said it was fine as long as they weren't painful. He wasn't bothered by me calling after hours, so maybe call the doctor just to ease your mind?

  • I called and got the midwife who is on call at the hospital. She said she can't tell me anything unless I go there and she can examine me. The hospital is 30 minutes away and I don't want to pay unnecessary money if it's nothing.

  • If it doesn't improve or I have any serious symptoms I will definitely go. I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this first.

Exactly this! I get sharp pains sometimes and it worries me and then somehow it is always connected to my bathroom habits! It's just that with the general cramping/BH cramps, the other pain just feels so unusual to me. Glad to know I'm not crazy!

  • I don't think mine is connected to bathroom habits but I will pay attention to that just in case. Thanks for the input ladies.

I had this very same thing last night. Tightening/contractions every 5-10 minutes for 4 hours. They weren't painful but for peace of mind we still went and got checked. Not what I wanted to do at 9:30pm but am so glad I did. Better to be safe than sorry at this point.

  • Personally I'd say you're fine. I've had cramping off and on for awhile as well as sharp pains. I tell my OB this all the time and it's normal. If they go away while you're resting, you're fine. In the home stretch you'll be feeling this stuff more and more.

But, as others said, if you want to be totally safe go in and get checked out.

  • I had this start happening out of nowhere yesterday and ended up getting sick all day and today it still hurts to bend and move but lying down still feels heavy. When i called they had me come in just to make sure they weren't contractions and everything was perfectly fine with the baby.
  • Thanks everyone. I'll go to the doctor tomorrow just in case since it doesn't seem like I should be rushing to the hospital over it.

I've been experience semi-constant mentrual like pains for the past several hours.  I haven't been able to distinguish between the start and end of any of them and I haven't had any BH yet this pregnancy (31 weeks right now).  The stranger thing is that I woke up to find that my morning sickness miraculously reappeared today.

Just sharing because I don't think you're alone and I definitely want to hear other opinions about this.

You need to get it checked out. We can't tell you if you're fine or not. Pain and cramping all day is not something you should ignore. Get checked for your baby's sake if not your own.

And nausea/vomiting in third tri can be a sign of pre-eclampsia and related disorders. So if you feel like your morning sickness has returned, that is something you should call about too.

Really? Huh. Yikes. Mine returned with full force a week ago. I didn't think anything of it.

  • Go in! I am in the hospital on an iv drip and monitors as I type this. GO IN!!!!! It is the health of your baby! What if those cramps are contractions making you dilate! I felt the same way Sunday and on Monday morning I started bleeding now I've been at the hospital for over 24 hours. It's better to be safe then sorry. I hope all goes well.

Yep.  It may be nothing, but if you are really feeling sick all of a sudden, it's something you should mention to your doctor so they can determine whether it's anything to worry about.  Same with abdominal or shoulder pain.

This happened to the girl who owns where my shower is being held. Started throwing up at 29 weeks and had her baby the next day. She has HELPP and didn't know it.
