Re: ~*~Health and Fitness Check In~*~

  • 1. I am 8 weeks 3 days pregnant.
    2. I'm new so my goal is to do something active 3x/week, increase my water intake and not give in to all my indulgences!
    3. If I could go to the Olympics, I'd want to go in figure skating. I was a competitive skater until I was 20.
  • Loading the player...
  • 1) 7w3d

    2) pretty good. Took an extra day off bc DD had hives and I really couldn't focus on much else. Stroller running just keeps getting harder and harder though.

GTKY) I would want to go in for any of the longer distance running events. I love watching them!

  • Hello ladies. Thanks for the check-in @yamrwhite !

    1.  5 wks +2
    2.  I managed to work out three times - fell short of my goal by one.  (But I did start the week off on the right foot this week by going to the gym this morning).  Eating wasn't awful but I did not do a good job of tracking.  I really need to focus on getting more veggies in on the weekends.

Olympic:  I've always wanted to be an Olympic Gymnast.

  • 1) How far along are you? 8.4 weeks

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? I had a really good fitness week, which is good because the eating part of it wasn't as awesome. We were in NYC for 3 days and my eating was crap.  But I did a lot of exercise. H and I brought running clothes with us and I did a total of 20 miles in Central Park over two days. Freaking love running there.  Also did one ballet class over the week, and 1 10 mile run at home. Lots more running this week.

Question for runners, probably a good spot for it.
Have you all been getting a bit sore since pregnant, or is this unrelated?  I'm finding my joints are a bit sore, and my feet. Like my muscles and joints are getting tired sooner, and then after I run I'm finding more soreness than typical for me.  The tops of my feet are also aching like mad.  I've had various injuries from running and dancing over the years, but it doesn't really feel like I'm injured- it just feels like everything is tired, which I don't usually have. Anyone else have that?

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why?  I wish lacrosse would make it to the Olympics.. pffftt.  I'll go with swimming.. butterfly, I'm good at that.

  • @MusicFanatic‌ to answer your running question, yes!!!!! My whole body feels way too sluggish and slow throughout my entire run. It started about a week after my BFP and I'm just running through it. Some days are better than others but it definitely takes a lot of pep talking to get my tired body out the door.

@YaMrWhite - ok, so perhaps pregnancy related then. Typically the beginning of any run is more harder on me, hard to get moving and into my pace.  Now I'm actually the opposite and the middle/end is really tough.  Both physically and mentally.  And then I stop after my 10 miles and I feel like I ran a marathon.   The top of my foot crap needs to cease, too.

I REALLY needed this check in!

    1) How far along are you? 7w2d

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track?

I didn't do great this past week. Our schedules have been crazy and I've been swamped at work. With H's baseball season and me working late, I feel guilty taking DD to the Y kid care after a day at the babysitter. I've gotten in a few stroller runs, but my pace is now up to 9 min/mile which seems like it takes forever to cover the distance. Also, my heart palpitations have been getting more frequent due to the higher level of exertion. I only got in 3 quality runs and one lift last week.

GTKY: I would love to do gymnastics. I stopped at an early age, but continued with tumbling. I think it's amazing!

@MusicFanatic‌ my body is definitely more sore than usual. I've been attributing it to the increase in relaxin affecting my joints. (Though I know it's not at it's peak)

    1) How far along are you? 6 w, 1 d

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track?  I've made it to the gym 3x this week, and have been walking the dog after work.  I find I'm getting tired a lot faster, and really have to watch my breathing and pace myself.

    3) IF YOU ARE NEW, please list your goal here for me to add you to the weekly thread:  I lost 40 lbs prior to becoming pregnant, mostly through TRX and weight lifting.  I would like to try to maintain my muscle mass, as well as get at least 30 minutes of cardio daily (can be at the gym, or just walking the dog).  I plan to reduce the intensity of my workouts, and will do lower weights but higher reps.

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why? Snowboarding - because it has to be my favourite winter activity!

  • 1) How far along are you? Still unsure- u/s is tomorrow! Kazaaaa!

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? Terrible, we were in New Orleans for a work conference and I didn't even being running shoes! (We did walk a lot though!)

    3) IF YOU ARE NEW, please list your goal here for me to add you to the weekly thread

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why? Swimming, swimmers have awesome bods and I was a swimmer most of my young life so I feel it's fitting ;)

    2) How did you do this past week? Managed 3 miles 6 days out of 7 despite the rain.
    3) I am new!  My goal is to stay more active by walking at least 3 miles 5 out of 7 days a week.

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why?  Im too clumsy for the olympics!

@musicfanatic  I find myself getting sore a lot more quickly.  My hips on down and after about a mile and a half I ache.

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? Not very well. The eating part wasn't too bad but I got zero activity. I guess the good news is that after my little vacation where I gained 5 lbs, it all went away as soon as I got back home. This week I'm going to have to get back on the train. Walking time!

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why? I would be in the Winter Olympics for snowboarding. I used to snowboard a lot in middle school and high school. I miss it but I'm not anywhere near any ski resorts anymore. Still have my board though!

    I am 8 wks

Goal is to continue working out 6x week. Currently having issues running with stamina and pace...almost 1 min/mile slower!  Yikes.

Would definitely try and be an olympic gymnast

Quite normal really! Your body is working hard to grow a baby so I wouldn't let that discourage you :)

  • 1) 7 weeks 4 days

2)Got all three of my walks in but still looking for a new yoga studio that offers classes at times that suit me
  • 3) gymnastics for sure! As a child I always wanted to go to the Olympics fit gymnastics
  • 1) How far along are you? 5w+2

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? I did Zumba on Monday and ran on Tuesday, but the rest of the week was pretty crappy... I did hit nearly 15K steps on my FitBit on Saturday, despite an 8+ hour road trip, so I was happy about that.  I skipped my workout yesterday, also, but hopefully will be going running this evening and getting back on the bandwagon of working out daily.

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why? I would actually choose figure skating - I used to ice skate as a child and I was really good at it.  I decided to quit to put my schooling first, but I was always told I would have been the next Michelle Kwan.  I miss it a lot, and would love to be able to go back to it, but I'm too old now... lol

  • @morethansparrows08 I can already tell my fitbit is going to be my lifesaver throughout this pregnancy. At first I thought I would just take it off for the duration but now I am thinking it is helping me out. Whenever I don't feel like working out, I still get steps in by walking and cleaning and such so it helps to know I am still remaining somewhat active :)

  • 1) How far along are you? 8 weeks, 5 days

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? Not well. I was only able to get out and run once this weekend and it was a really crappy one. My pace was awful and kept feeling like I was pushing too hard so I kept slowing down. I'm going to try and get back on track by working out at least 3 times this week.

    3) IF YOU ARE NEW, please list your goal here for me to add you to the weekly thread. Goal is to get back up to at least a 5k. Run the Philly Zoo 5k in July.

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why?
I've always loved watching ice skating but I'm really bad at it. I'd love to be awesome enough to be in the Olympics.

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? I think I did ok. I swam twice and I ran 4 times. I would liked to have run more and I missed one swim lesson because I was so nauseous. As for the running, I've got to acclimate to the heat. It usually takes me a few weeks.

    2) How did you do this past week? If you didn't reach your goals, what will you do to get back on track? Not bad - I'm still maintaining my weight, which is a win. Of course someone put some soft Entenmann's cookies in the kitchen at work, and I had to have some. I took two. I should have only taken one. But I WON'T GO BACK lol. I'm still walking at lunch so that's good.

GTKY: If you could qualify for the Olympics (Summer or Winter) what sport would you choose and why? Swimming. I would love to learn to be a good swimmer.

*****Can't get out of the quote box****

Yes, I've found running to be a lot different while expecting. My hamstrings have been sore when they never were before. My joints don't hurt but I do get fatigued faster, especially in the heat we're experiencing in the South right now. I have just come to realize that I'm going to be at least a minute per mile slower and it's going to take me longer to recover after what normally are easy runs. Don't be too hard on yourself!

    2. I did pretty well this past week. I worked out 4 days. Two of them were easy workouts. When I have more energy I will try to up the intensity a bit.
    3. Hmmm... I guess I would say some sort of running event. I wish I was that awesome at running. :)
