July 2013 Moms

It's been far too long since our last poop question!

Do not worry, ladies, I will remedy that!! As our oldest J13er, my DD has started whole cow's milk because our pedi said I should stop giving her preemie formula in the supplemental nursing system. I'm cutting out the formula gradually - only giving it to her for the morning feeding and the nighttime feeding and then offering her cow's milk in her zoli cup throughout the day. I'm also still nursing. So for the last few days she's taken about 12 oz of cow's milk and her poo has been a bit softer and lighter in color. I'm assuming normal since her diet has changed? Perhaps due to the iron, formula was a bit more binding? You're welcome for talking about poop.

  • Yeah I also have heard..and seen ;)  cow milk causing firm poops...think baby rabbit turds ;)  We could always tell which kids loved their milk at home ;)
  • Loved it for the title :D No experience with the WCM yet, but it sounds like a good thing!

    Where's @mimi4347 when we're talking about poop?
  • POOPS!!!!

No idea. I would assume if a change in diet and a change in poop coincide and there doesn't seem to be any discomfort that it's probably linked and fine. I wouldn't worry about softer stool if there's no significant increase in volume or frequency.

I'm kind of terrified of switching to WCM.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts!

Thank you, @mimi4347‌ , resident poopspert!!! Will you have to be cleared to start cow's milk? I imagine breastmilk/formula has more calories so Dr. Gut might not encourage the switch yet?

  • We're using frozen BM until it runs out - probably a few more weeks - and then we'll switch. I'm hoping he keeps eating more solids in general and it's not such a huge change, but we'll see.

  • We have started to give DD some WCM as well and her poos are softer and lighter too. And smellier it seems. Haha
