Your Name: Political Party Demographics

Have you all seen this? It's a tool that searches a database of registered voters and gives demographic information for a name (party affiliation, percentile Dem/Rep, plus statistical info on education, religion, and gun ownership). It's interesting to compare similar names that are popular in different regions/demographics. Taylee is a Republican, Tayla is a Democrat, and Tyleisha is an extreme outlier Democrat (99.9th percentile).

I was excited to see that there are 22 registered voters with DS's name! Sort of surprised that they're mostly Democrats.

(Note: The site is partisan (Democratic), but the tool works for both Democrats and Republicans (no third party data), though the language is slanted pro-Dem).

  • My name is 59.2% Democratic. Probability is 56.2 that I have a college degree, 33% that I attend a religious service weekly, and 51.9% that I have a gun in the house. Interesting.

MH is 51.5% Republican. Gabriel is 59.3% Democrat.

Well I'm stuck here all day playing with this. LOL

  • Mine's pretty middle of the road, but leans Democrat (53.3%), which is not surprising, I have a pretty common name. H's is just barely over 51% Democrat (for the record, we're pretty hardcore liberals).

Hilariously, my dad's name is much more likely to be Republican, I think because it was a more common name for men in the 1950s. My dad is most definitely not a Republican.

  • DH and I both have fairly middle of the road names and stats. My real surprise was looking up my boys' names and seeing how commonly they were used. DS2's name has been more common than DS1's in the SSA the past 3 years, yet there were 3 423 registered voters with DS1's name and only 477 with DS2's name. DS2's name is 75% Democrat, DS1's is 54%.

  • My husband and I and all three kids are all in the blue! Thank god we live in a blue state!
  • Fascinating! Apparently my name is a pretty even split.
I'm likely to have a gun in my house and have a college degree but not to attend religious services weekly. Only right on one of those. ;)
DH's name is a bit more Republican (54%), one son's name is similar but our other son's name is 56% Democrat. Interesting. :) My name is apparently the least religious of the bunch.

H is 49% democratic and pretty right in the middle for the stats, too.

Mine is 73.4% democratic, 55.9% I own a gun (nope), 24.4% attend church and 49.1% have a college degree.

Well, I am a Democrat, I own no guns, I don't attend church, and I do have several degrees.

    I knew I liked you.

Someone once said on here that they imagined someone with my name to basically be a hoity-toity rich conservative. I thought it was amusing because I'm a chill, middle-class liberal.

This site is interesting! About 55% are democrat (I am, in fact, liberal), 50% own a gun (We have several), 37% attend church (I do not- I'm agnostic), and 53% have a degree (I do have a BA).
