Baby shower

I am so grateful that my fam is throwing me a baby shower but it is only one month from my due date. I'm just scared that I won't have everything in place. I work full time and by the time I get home I'm too tired to do anything! Any tips??

  • I'd make sure I had the essentials in place before the shower. Meaning crib, car seat, and a few sets of clothes.

  • Mine is at 36 weeks due to a busy June. I have my basics as mentioned above. I am not worried.
  • I had mine at 36 weeks with DD and everything was fine. And yes, make sure all the big stuff is bought and set up.

  • Don't worry, your biggest problem is that you may be gigantic at your shower. I was and everything was still OK. I managed to get everything put in place / exchanged / etc prior to my due date and I also worked a full time job.

I think the biggest problem is that she doesn't realize how ridiculous she sounds.

My shower is scheduled for when I'm about 36 weeks.  My tip would have been to talk to the hostess about scheduling for an earlier date if you were that worried, but it's really late for that now... and/or accept that *if* you go early (I assume within the next 4 weeks), that you may need to send someone to the store to buy a car seat before you leave the hospital.
  • I get it, I really do. But a month is a long time. You'll do a little each night/each weekend and you will get it done. As others suggested, get done whatever you can before your shower.

  • When DS was born his crib wasn't even assembled.  Being worried about the shower 4 weeks before your due date should be the least of your concerns.   And get used to being tired when you get home from your job.  At least now you can put your feet up and relax.  Once your LO comes, you'll get home and have to keep moving for a few more hours before you can get anything done.

this ^^.  i haven't even been home for more than a week at a time b/c i had to get all my travel done before my doctor cut me off, and i'm still managing to fit things in here and there between my son's billion activities as well as my husband's travel schedule.  i even did a craft this weekend...which is unheard of for me (i'm a total math-brained weirdo).

take a deep breath, figure out a priority list, and then pick it off little by little.  you need a car seat, newborn diapers, wipes, a small bassinet and some one-sies to put LO in if he/she is born "early"...the rest can come gradually later.

  • I'm going to give OP the benefit of the doubt because originally my MIL wanted my shower at the end of June when I'd be 37 weeks. I about had a stroke. Luckily, my mom and her decided to do a joint one on June 15th...still later than I'd prefer but at least that gives me some time. My biggest concern was myself going nuts because I'm extremely OCD. Between the addition and remodel not done, I need some control over something.

I'd do as others suggest. Unless you know friends and family buy big ticket items, I'd buy them myself. We bought the stroller, car seat, bases, diapers and wipes, crib, dresser, bedding and clothing. We have everything we NEED if LO came today. Everything on my registry is all extra. It's late to try to change it at this point so I'd suggest buying the necessary items and fluffing your registry.

My shower was at 36 weeks with DD1. I was induced at 39 weeks. I had plenty of time to get things exchanged/washed/put away. But I had absolutely everything I NEEDED for baby long before my shower came. (Car seat, some clothes, a bassinet, etc.)

you could have all the guests send their gifts now and then at the shower you can either sit around and have everyone tell you how pretty you are or just "forget" that morning and stay home and nap.

    I'm helpful.

    I snorted.

    =))
