Thrush Pain Management

Does anyone have any good techniques for managing the nipple/breast pain associated with Thrush? We are both being treated (day 4) but I know this can take a few weeks to fight. I have been taking the Motrin and Percoset I was prescribed in the hospital just to get through the excrutiating bf sessions but I've run out of both. I'm actually feeling panicked. I've found little relief using APNO and I'm getting desperate.

Re: Thrush Pain Management

  • I was prescribed quadruple nipple cream... It has an antifungal, a steroid an antibiotic and one more thing that escapes me at the moment. It's basically an all purpose pain/thrush/cracks/infection treatment. It made a HUGE difference in my pain level (thank you steroids!)

It must be prescribed and I had to pick it up at a specialty compounding pharmacy.

It's majorly heavy duty, and although I'm usually quite reticent to pull out the big pharmaceutical guns, thrush pain (as you well know!) is a BEAST and makes you immediately willing to try anything.

Thanks! @Xan84‌ I'm on Diflucan for two weeks and baby gets Nystatin 3x a day. I'm taking 30 billion units of probiotics daily and using Jack Newman's ointment. The pediatrician thinks the vinegar might only be irritating my nipples so I'll see if that helps for a few days.
  • Jack newman's ointment is basically the same as the cream I described above. My treatment was identical to the one you have described: two weeks of Diflucan, oral Nystatin for my daughter four times daily, the cream on my nipples after each feeding.
