  • We don't.  Boring, I know.  We will have to get our flag out and hung up, though.  We did listen to Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA while we were driving home from San Diego today.  I love that song, it's my favorite patriotic song.

We grill and usually go to the pool. Today we got ice cream and just spent time together as a family. It was awesome!

I don't get many days off so I spent Saturday and Sunday cleaning. We got the patio taken care of and I planted some veggies in big pots. Hoping to have fresh spinach, lettuce, broccoli, and squash this summer!

My extended family plants our huge garden together in the morning. My husband is a disabled combat vet (Iraq) and we typically lay low. He's always very quiet and reserved on memorial day, and I try not to push him to talk about it.

@mbo, what are you planting for veggies? Here in the northeast we are already putting things in the ground. I love to garden and help people get started!

@mrsatch Defiantly basil and tomatoes- I would like to add peppers- last I tried they didn't turn out. I would like to plant in a pot. Is there a trick or did I just have bad luck last time?

mbo109, peppers can be hard. I know in Maine if you put them out too early they don't do well. We have everything but our peppers planted. I won't put them in for a few more weeks. Container gardening works well as long as you have the right kind of soil. You don't want to use just potting soil because the nutrients aren't quite right. I start with a bag of promix and fertilize depending on what I'm growing. For basil and tomatoes you should be able to use 10x10x10 fertilizer. Or if you want to go all organic (which we do for most of our stuff) you can use a compost & promix base.
