First Appointment Questions?

Hey ladies! New mom-to-be here... So a week ago we found out we were pregnant per the pee stick and tomorrow is my first appointment with my Gyno. What should I expect to happen during that appointment tomorrow and what types of questions, etc should I come prepared with. Help please? Thanks in advance!

Pee in a cup, check your weight, and get congratulated. She/He will probably ask you if you are taking prenatals and when your LMP is. You may or may not then get scheduled for a viability scan appt. that's how mine go. If you are into staying healthy and active during your pregnancy, ask your dr advice on that.

I got a packet of info about what to avoid, they asked questions about my diet, I got a prescription for a prenatal vitamin, they talked about exercise, and I got an ultrasound.

Transvaginal Ultrasound if you are about 5-7 weeks, and blood work

Yeah - the transvaginal ultrasound came as a HUGE surprise to me the first time... definitely something that would be nice to have known about.

Depending on how long you've been going to this doctor, they may collect some additional family/personal history(like about depression so they know whether to monitor you for postpartem depression or family history of you and your husband too for to be aware of any potential birth defects). They may ask for your blood type. If you don't know it, they can check that with lab work (mainly for the Rh part of it).

My appointment isn't until June 23 but I was told it's about a 2 hour long appointment. Ultrasound, Meeting with midwife, lab work, and then going over financials.

They should give you one, but if they don't you might want to ask for a sheet of medicine that is acceptable during pregnancy. Hopefully you won't need it!

Sitting in the OB office. Been here for 30 mins already. Joy! Is this what I have to look forward to? Long waits and lots of checkups? Ack

pelvic exam, including STD screen (or you can sign a waiver for that, but some ins companies will have a problem with that).

I hate the wait. My office run s behind every day I'm there. But I really like the doctors so I put up with it.

Sooo no one warned me they take 8 things of blood! I passed out! First time ever!

Not fun....

Otherwise, going in first ultrasound tomorrow as I have some blood in there and they are worried I may have miscarried... oy vey. Not allowed to run or anything until they figure out what is going on. So much for my 11 miler today training for the half on the 7th!

I had to show up half an hour early, but they had all my info and insurance so it took me 5 mins to check in. Waiting 25 mins, peed in a cup, weight, talked with OB did a pap (last one was with DD +2 years ago), transvag u/s, 8 things of blood work and scheduled next appointment!
