Last summer a suburb of my city had an event where they created a giant mud pit and kids came from all over the metro area to spend the afternoon playing in the mud. I've heard that this sort of thing is popping up in a few cities. My 12-year-old daughter heard about if from a friend, saw some pictures online and now is begging me to let her participate this year! To get an idea of the magnitude of the gooey, oozing mess the kids would be wallowing in, take a look at these pictures:
Does anyone else have any experience with an event like this? I have to admit I'm a little nervous, but I'll probably end up telling her to put on her swimsuit or her oldest shorts and T-shirt and have fun. Interestingly, my 9-year-old son is luke warm about participating, while my daughter, who is quite mature for her age, does ballet, plays the violin and is interested in creative writing cannot wait to slop in the mud. Go figure!
Re: events where kids get to play in the mud
Shocking.
I would love to do this.
Or I'd strongly encourage DS to do the mud because I'd have so much fun.
@mbenit4 I didn't know there were color runs specifically for children.
That mud event looks fun. We have a dirt parea towards the back of our property. The kids love to get messy in it. They just hose each other off. I prefer it to our sandbox. That sand sticks everywhere and they never get it completely off before entering the house.
That makes my day. I'm going to find a race to do with DS. I'll just have to drag someone along to hold the baby.
I've never seen this but my kids would be all over it. At our old house it was a summer rite of passage to fill the blow up pool & spend the day outside with the water hose making mud puddles & rolling around in the mud all day. We had 2 blow up pools, one they made into a big mud pit & the other was to keep "clean water" for the littliest ones. Yea that never happened. I cringed, the kids laughed, good times were had by all.
