Get a baby pool

Last year we had so much fun in our tiny plastic pool.  This year I bought one with a dinosaur head you put balls into.  This is hysterically fun, apparently.  Spent hours running around, splashing.  Made her talk too.  She said, "where'd dad go?" and "mom, no."  Do not forget sunscreen, hats, and any other coverings you can get on them.  I am already dreading winter.

Re: Get a baby pool

  • We got a water table with a water wheel that DS and his cousin love to play with.  They get just as soaking wet as they would if it was a sit-n-it kind of kiddie pool LOL

  • I really wanted to post pics of M because she was so cute in her hat and matching rash guard and bright purple cloth diaper.  Unfortunately, we no longer photograph M because she demands the phone and that is an especially bad combo with water.  Plus, I have never posted a photo here because I talk about people I know IRL and don't want any connections drawn.  However, here is the Amazon link:
We bought it a K-mart for $39.  It was more than I might have spent, but it looked like it would entertain her more and I really needed that.

Last year we had one of those pop up ones that is kind of flexible but it took a lot of water to make it stay up and it got a hole in the yard quickly.  We also had one of those hard plastic ones that the previous home owners had left in the bushes.  We mainly used that one, and it worked great all summer.  I just rinsed it out every couple days, which was possible because it was small, and wiped off the biofilm on the sides.  It did once or twice get a bunch of mayflies that had emerged floating in it.  It ended up getting a hole late in the season, and I plugged it with gum, but I thought it was time to do something a little bigger.  This year, we will wipe down the biofilm, use a cover, and treat with a small amount of bleach occasionally (based on web advice).  I will probably also rinse and restart it every other week or so.

This was the one we had.  Don't get me wrong, it was awesome.  But so much mildew.

My mom just got us this. From the good will. So the box is ripped open and who the heck knows whats inside. But this thing will take up the whole backyard and we don't even own a air pump to fill it up! Not sure how we are going to manage this without hurt feelings.

  • So if you have to drain the pool each night, what do you do with the water? Our small yard would become a swamp if I dumped out the pool in it every night. It's damp anyway.

  • We don't dump ours every day--we cover it and it stays okay for a while.  Michigan is a swamp, but we won't get mosquitoes in the pool unless we totally neglect it.  Our yard needs the water when we do dump, but we don't fill ours super full in the first place.
  • Yeah, this year at our new house we've got quite a few more plants than at the old house, and tomatoes usually need quite a bit of water, so maybe I'll try that, too. It's not nearly hot enough here to swim yet, though, so it'll be a while :) Usually there are only a couple of weeks each summer when it's in the upper 80s or higher.

  • boo, so disappointed. we pulled out the blow up pool for JJ, but he had no interest :( i was really looking forward to this keeping him busy in the summer. we also have a water table, but that only seems to hold his attention for 5 or 10 minutes.

i swear, he's like a dog/cat: if we're inside, he wants to go out, but as soon as we're out, he wants to come back in.
