Enema before C section

I am having a C Section on June 2 because baby girl is breech. They told me to give myself an enema the night before. I am kind've scared. Does anyone have experience with an enema? Is it going to make me feel sick? How long am I going to have bowel movements for? Any advice??

No experience with c sections, but before my sigmoidoscopy I had to give myself three enemas in a row. It really wasn't that bad. I used the saline one with the little nozzle. I just laid down on a towel on my left side and inserted the nozzle a bit and squeezed gently. The first one was a little hard to empty since I hadn't had a movement that day. I kept it in for about a minute of two before I felt like I reeeeally had to poop. Kind of like the last stage of diarrhea without the cramping. Then I shimmied to the bathroom and let er rip. I had some cramping with the next two since they got further into my digestive tract but it still wasn't anything bad. Just loose stool and mild stomach cramps for about an hour then I was all done. Mmmm wonder if I am going to need to have one. I have a scheduled c section June 18 for breech. Dr has not told me yet. Guess I will find out.

I have my c -section scheduled, and have already had my pre-op appt but haven't been told anything about giving myself an enema the night before. I wonder why some dr's want you to have one and some never mention it?

Nope, DH says he has never heard of anyone having to have an enema before their c/s. It must just be some docs preference, kinda glad it isn't my docs preference.

Well they didn't say I have to they just recommended it, and since I've been so backed up I want to do it even though I'm scared to!

They did not ask me to do this before my c/s however it makes perfect sense to me. You can have severe tearing from the pain meds and they're probably trying to prevent that.
