A sin to refrigerate BM she doesn't drink?

So, I'm trying to keep up with LO's appetite and have the silent victory of not having to supplement with formula since about week 5. I EP as well, maybe nurse once a week so I don't really count that. If she doesn't finish a bottle, I refrigerate it. Throughout the day I refrigerate her "leftovers" so I have something for MOTN or first thing in the morning. What I don't use that next day, I freeze.

My concern is that technically she had already drunk out of the bottle that I refrigerate and use later. Is there an issue with contamination I need to worry about? Something about bacteria from their mouth's potentially touching the lips and milk.

Edit: complete sentences are hard.

  • I was doing the same thing before Colton started STTN. I would use a new nipple each time and smell and taste his milk first to make sure it was ok.

  • I did that sometimes with Caroline when I was EPing and every drop mattered so much.

  • My LC said it's fine, just for a shorter period of time than fresh milk, so for one day instead of 3-5. :-)

  • I was always told to use it at the next feeding.so I would start with the last bottle and then move to a new one when it was finished.

This is what stinks about fortifying. I have to use it within the hour once he starts.
  • @addisonsmom22‌ fresh milk only

@babycaps‌ still ok to freeze it?

  • With breast milk, every drop is precious for sure, I absolutely save it for the next feed!  I believe only formula has to be used within the hour once baby has had their mouth on it... Mixed formula that hasn't had baby contact is good in the fridge for 24 hours.
  • I thought you couldn't save it, so I'm happy to hear this. DH always feels so bad when he warms up too much and we have to pitch it, but it's great that we can just use it on the next feed!
