toys for an 18 month old

Hey ladies! I am wanting to buy my Godson a gift. He is almost 18 months old, and I have no idea what would be good for that age. My only experience is with my son who is not quite 7 months old. What toys would y'all recommend? Not wanting to spend more than $30, and need something that we can pack in our suv and travel with. TIA!

Puzzles, or anything truck/car/construction related.

Large wooden puzzles with knobs, v-tech go-go smart cars, board books (she LOVES "Alphablock" right now), anything Fisher Price Little People, crayons/color wonder markers... or anything they can play with outside.

DS is 18m and he LOVES LOVES LOVES his toy cars and trucks. He'll do independent play with them for up to an hour some times. We have probably 2 dozen cars and trucks of different sizes (we put away half of them for rotation purposes).

He did like puzzles but only for a couple of weeks.

I've been trying crayons/waterpaint with him, as well as Lego Duplos. He's not interested in those yet.
