in laws...

I was looking for an "in law" board..I've read a lot of discussions about in laws..and trying to figure out where to post this..anyway.. here's another one!!

My mil & fil are nice people...they are just SO out there and out of touch with reality!.. I just can't take it and DREAD ever going to see them and now with a newborn it's even stranger! . They haven't held him it is like they are afraid of him! They will stand over him and ask if they can touch his hands.. Hello it's your grandson so yeah!..what else? She sends me a picture of a huge camping tent they set up in their living room and said this is for the baby.... wtf is a baby going to do with that!! (let me add for our baby shower she got us a HUGE 3ft gorilla stuffed animal..something you would win at a carnival..which we have no room for..) I guess it's just so different because I come from a normal family that will bring over diapers and meals and just adore our baby!! So anytime a holiday comes around I have such anxiety because it's just too awkward I can't even handle it..I wish there was a way I could nicely say to my husband I don't want to go..and I don't want him to go and take the baby . I just feel like I have to suck it up because I don't Want my husband to then say it's not fair and,stop going to my parents get togethers..

Anyone have issues with their in laws similar and just don't want to be around them!? ...help ladies :/

      My in-laws are in a different state about 5 hours from DH and I.  It's my FIL and his wife (DH's mom died over 10 years ago and they were divorced waaaaay before then).  

      DH called them when we found out we were expecting and his dad sounded really happy.  That was in February.  We haven't heard from them since.  Not a peep.  Not an email asking how we were, not a call, nothing.  

      My SIL and step-MIL's kids all have kids of their own and they all live in the same state.  DH is the oldest of the family and the last to have kids.  I understand they have their own lives, but would it kill them to call every now and then?  (Also, DH has called/texted his dad a few times.  Never gets a call back.)

    My in-laws are funny too sometimes. There are days when my FIL can be funny and sweet and then there are days where he's very angry and "out there". He's really into antiques and he keeps buying toys for LO that aren't appropriate for him. For example, he bought LO a WW2 era metal rattle. It has a very sharp seam on it and he couldn't understand why I said he couldn't have it. He also bought the huge carnival sized bear. I think it's the thought that counts.

    My MIL is another story. She lives out of state and has been wonderful. But she's a bit lazy sometimes. She comes and stays with us for a few weeks at a time to see the baby, but after a few days, she's not really interested anymore. People are just weird about our little ones...

    Hahahaha, they bought him a huge tent?!?!?! What on earth!!! Why?!?! I'm sorry, but your post made me laugh so much. What is an infant going to do with a big tent?? I think this MIL/FIL story is the oddest one I've ever read on the Bump.
