mom's who wear their little ones

Do any of you have experience with the baby ktan or the Boba wrap? From what I have learned, the ktan can run small and I wouldn't be able to wear dd in it for long. But it seems easier than a wrap. What I like about the boba is that dh could use it and I can wear dd for quite some time. The price is much better too. I have read that some people weren't able to get their babies snug enough because of the stretchy material. So all you first handers send me your knowledge

Eta: because it's hard to type mobile with a baby on your boob

Re: mom's who wear their little ones

  • Have and love my boba wrap. It will take practice to get them tight enough but not a lot. I love how soft and comfortable it is. I loved the Moby with my second too. My hubby also uses it. :)

  • I have a ktan.... LOVE IT!!! I used it with DS, let my sister borrow it for her DD and now using it again for my DD. Still stretchy, holds her tight and I honestly couldn't live with out it especially now that I have a 2 yr old to chase after. Easy to use, easy to wash. I use it until LO is about 6-9 mos old until they'd rather be in a stroller or I'd rather wear them in my ergo. I don't like the ergo for when they are so little because the material isn't as soft, easy to clean and snuggle them as tightly as the ktan. Also, the ktan was true to size for me, normally wear a size 4 and the size it said to buy worked perfectly.
  • See I was mostly scared of the size. I need one asap. This baby is attached at the tit and I can't do anything without her in my arms. Plus it's so much easier to go places and not have to bring a car seat in. But I would like dh to be able to carry her too. So it's a win win with the boba. But ktan seems a lot more convenient

I'm a FTM and used my Boba for the first time on Friday after my MIL left and I was home alone with DD while DH was at work. It was amazing! It was so easy to use, baby loved it but in south Texas she got hot after about an hour and wanted out. It's amazing what can get done when you're wearing baby. For me, it's a bonus bc our baby has reflux and needs to stay upright after eating. Holding her up was taking a lot of extra time out of our day.

that's what I'm dealing with right now. she has reflux today and she's laying on my chest as we speak, up right.

  • I have the Ktan and love it. It makes walking the dogs and doing a few other things do much easier. It was true to size for me too.
  • I have a moby. I like it, but I'm still figuring it out. I hope it turns into love once I got it figured out.

Stretchier wraps (eg boba an Ktan) don't last as long weight wise due to stretch. But are great for a newborn and small infant.
  • Maybe I'll go with the moby. Since it's less stretchier fabric and this way dh can wear her too. From the reviews on amazon for the boba, it seems like a lot of people mention it stretching out after a few holds

I'm not sure if this is available where you live, but we have a store here that let's you rent the various carriers for a week to try it out for less than $10.  The rental fee is then applied toward your purchase price.  I'm going to try out the k'tan and one of the ring slings they offer.  Good luck!

  • See if you have a baby wearing group in your area. You can either borrow or buy a used one. I got a moby for $20. Most of the baby wearers will help you out to drink their kool aid :)
  • I found one girl in my area who is willing to give me a 5 day trial with her boba that she will sell to me for 25.

  • Is the moby wrap less stretchy than the boba or ktan

    It's a BOY

  • Moby is 100% cotton so it's less stretchy. The boba is the same style but has stretch. The Ktan has stretch but is sized and prestructured so there's less wrapping.
  • So moby might be the safest bet.. won't have to worry about it stretching out. My target has one in the store so maybe I'll take it out and try it on

  • Do it! It takes some figuring out. I'm still watching YouTube to get the hang of it. Luckily DS likes it.

  • Love the ktan!!! And I found if you are debating between 2 sizes, go with the smaller size.

I use a moby wrap and so does DH...super easy! Just look up the tutorials online and baby boy loves being in it...I can get him to sleep when he's most fussy. Bonus is we only need one as it's one size

  • Man I wish target carried the boba and ktan in stores. I have one right across the street I could test them all out. I live in Florida so another concern is if the wraps will be too hot. It's extremely hot and humid here

They make mesh style ring slings (meant for water) but would be good and cool for Florida!
  • I saw those. I almost bought one for dh. They're awesome I still might get one. I love ring slings

  • I never wrapped my other LOs. My neighbor got me the Boba this time. I just opened it yesterday (trying to pack a house to move when you have a newborn that only wants held, is a bit hard). I watched a you tube video first before attempting it. I got it on the first try. DD loved it. I am so excited to have it. I was getting stressed about the shape of our house (an almost 6 yr old and almost 4 yr old.....and DH, lol) bc I haven't done much since my RCS. Now that I'm feeling better and have the wrap.....I can conquer the world!!! Or atleast run the vacuum ;)

  • That's awesome I'm really excited to start wrapping. I have to carry her down stairs while holding the dog on a leash to take him for a walk. It's so dangerous and I fear I'm going to trip and fall. It's hard for me to carry the laundry to the laundry room downstairs with her. It would be so much more convenient to carry her

  • I had intended to use the Ktan for DD1. Went to the store, tried it on when I was 20w pregnant, tested it with the practice baby, the small seemed a little too tight so I purchased the medium. Washed it following all care instructions. Fast forward to when DD was born and it was crazy small. No way could I get DD into it. I never use it. I'm too intimidated by the wraps so I ended up going straight to a soft structure carrier. While it wasn't as cozy as I would have liked for a newborn they do last a lot longer down the line.

  • I'm intimidated by the wraps too! But I'm willing to learn especially so dh can carry her. I have a bad habit of giving up on things too easily though so I have to fight that habit

I love my boba wrap! The key us the get it very snug before you put LO in it. We will also get the 4g boba carrier soon as it is cooler and goes up to a higher weight.

  • I have yet to try it but I have the boba 3G (soft structure carrier) that is supposed to work with a newborn but I haven't been able to set DS2 down long enough to convert it over! Lol. I also have a k'tan but haven't used it with #2 yet. I used it with #1 for a short time before he decided he didn't like it.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • Oh and k'tan has the breeze which is mesh so it should be decent for the hot Florida climate.

  • Since it seems like everyone likes one and/or the other, I'll try the moby out tomorrow at target. I may absolutely hate the wrap idea. Then I'll know to go with the ktan.

We have the K'Tan and love it. We actually have one for both me and DH! It runs a little small, but only because its very stretchy. Otherwise it won't be safe for baby. But I used mine with DS until he was 18 months and he is a big kid (90th percentile for height and weight). And really the only reason I stopped using it was because I got tired of lugging around my heavy kid, strollers just started to look too nice!

  • I ended up getting the moby! My husband was sick of hearing me talk about it and not buy anything so he grabbed it off the shelf and bought it for me. This was after my second attempt. I love it. I've never felt so close to my little one and I didn't want to take it off!
