Sun burn easier?

So yesterday I laid out by the pool for two hours and am to burnt to go again today (ugh). Its not terrible but I'm not stupid enough to make it worse. But I was shocked. I had a bit of a base tan already and I hardly EVER burn. I'm one those really annoying people that tans in five minutes and its browned. I'm wondering if my hormones have my skin all wackes out too!? Then my aunt said ever since she had her son she has never been able to hold a tan! I didn't know that could happen! Any one else have super sun sensistive skin related to pregnancy?. Its gonna make summer much longer if i have to carry around SPF 75 when i usually use none of SPF 4 lol

Re: Sun burn easier?

  • I don't know if there's any connection. I always burn a little even with sunscreen on. I was out at my daughter's soccer game yesterday and my arms are pretty fried, more than I would think they should be for the amount of time I was out. There are changes in skin pigmentation with areolas and linea nigra, so maybe?

  • I've definitely found that I burn more quickly now that I am pregnant.

  • Yes. Your skin is more sensitive while pregnant. That's why they say to be careful waxing, as well as being out in the sun.

  • I learned the hard way in Thailand in February. I usually tan very easy so I just put on 30 SPF while laying on the beach. Big mistake. I have never been so burnt in my entire life. I have to wear 50 SPF if I am going to be outside longer than an hour or I am toast.

I burn really easily anyway, but I was seriously out in the sun for 15 minutes yesterday and my chest is red.

Yup, I'm pale to begin with and both age and pregnancy have made it a lot worse. I have to be really careful and sometimes still burn with sunblock on. I often wear a big hat and a light-weight long sleeve shirt since sunblock sometimes isn't enough...
  • I have heard that if you already have stretch marks then tanning will make them more visible and also less likely to fade after the pregnancy. The same thing happens with any other scars (eg, surgery scars).

But if you don't have them already, you should be safe.
  • Lol! My DH thought I was crazy! I always wear 50 sun block because I burn so bad! I took my did for a 15 min walk and got so sunburnt!!!!!

I burn a lot quicker when pregnant.  It doesn't take much these days.

  • Oh man this is terrible news! The sun and I are not friends to start, I'm an SPF 100 girl. I'm going to have to bring an umbrella wherever I go now :((
  • I was fully planning on rocking a bikini this summer until I read that sun exposure can increase your risk of stretch marks due to dehydration of the skin. I don't know how legit that is, but since I want to be in the pool a lot for exercising these last months (3-4 times a week), I will probably play it safe and wear a tankini or one piece now.
