I try not to do this often, but I have to vent somewhere and I know you gals have some fun in laws too so hopefully you can sympathize. My FIL and I have an uncomfortable relationship. My MIL is a pretty big pushover and what FIL says goes. I, on the other hand, am not at all afraid to speak my mind and he isn't really sure what to do with me. A few weekends ago he planned a dinner out for my MILs bday...at 7pm. Sorry but my 3 year olds bedtime is at 7:30 and he isn't going to make it in a restaurant too much later than that. We went, ordered desert, and left early. He was pissed.
This weekend, we took the kids down to the campground that they stay at. The plan was that I would go home with DS2 and DH would stay with DS1 for the night. We got there right at lunchtime and as soon as we got out of the car he gave DS1 a cookie. Thanks...because we haven't had lunch yet and I love that you asked me first. He then proceeded to light a cigarette right next to us. I got up and moved and the man followed me and then got in DS2s face. I asked him to please step away until he was done with his cigarette. He rolled his eyes and slowly walked away. he then decided he wanted to take DS2 for a walk. Great idea, except he didn't want to use my stroller and wanted to use their old umbrella stroller. I tried to be a good sport and put DS2 in for him, but he was all crumpled up and his chin was slumped on his chest so I nixed that. He got all huffy and said he didn't want to use my stroller because it was too heavy so I said sorry but you're not going for a walk then. He then offered to drive him around in the golf cart...uuuuuummmmm no.
Fast forward to dinner. DS2 always takes a catnap at around 5:30. My BIL was holding him and I could see him fighting sleep so I went to grab him and it just so happened to be at the same time as FIL. I told him I just needed him to sleep for a little bit and he got mad AGAIN. Finally, I know that if we don't get DS2 in his jammies and eating by 7:30 then bedtime goes to hell in a handbasket. FIL decided at 7:10 that he wanted to take him for a walk (in my stroller now, go figure). I said that I needed to get him to bed soon and he again rolled his eyes and said, "Do I ever get to do anything with him?" Yep....just needs to be on his time, not yours. Get over it.
Needless to say, I am now home and enjoying my quiet time far, far away from his idiocy. If you made it this far...you deserve a cookie. And alcohol. Anyone want to commiserate?
Re: IL Vent
BTW, did you hear about the high school job officially yet?
But YAY about the job!
Also, I really admire the way you stand up to your annoying FIL! You are the mom and of course you know what's best for your children. He needs to get over himself and his eye rolling... so rude!
Yep, good memory @MissDemeanor! We'll be a household of 7 @-)
And kinder than I am. I don't think I could do it. I feel like I only want dh and my kids living with me. Is that horrible?
