14 weeks Doppler position

I finally got my Doppler (sonoline B). So naturally I tore it open thru on the gel and took a listen. I found several spots in the 120's, but then I found one spot very low just above my pelvic bone with a much faster sound, but the number jumped into the 150's and then immediately back to the 120's. Even when the Doppler showed the 120's number in the lower spot the sound was still very fast (not like the other 120 spots). I am pretty sure that this was the baby, but still a little concerned that I did not find her.

So for you girl who are Doppler experts, tell me... At 14 weeks was the baby still really low by the pelvic bone? Do you think that it was the baby I heard? Thanks in advance!

Using the doppler for the first few times can be tricky. I suggest watching some YOuTube videos if you haven't already. I'm 15.5 weeks now and i find him just below my belly button (right below where the fat pooch usually is if that make sense). A reading in the 150's could have definitely been your baby. It sounds like a fast galloping sound. The doppler counter isn't always very accurate but a reading in the 150's sounds right (mine usually goes from 147 - 156 or so). You can usually hear it a bit in the distance (put it up to your ear and turn the volume all the way up) and then you can gently move the probe a tiny bit and you can narrow in on your baby. I hope that helps. Those videos will give you a better indication of what to listen for because it's noisy down there but once you hear the baby it's not hard to decipher it from other sounds because it's the fastest sound you will hear. At this stage they move around a lot so it can be tricky to find while they are awake.

I like this video. It's straight to the point. Fwiw I'm 13wks with a lot of excess chub and I can find the hb. Sometimes it takes a while and usually it's not for a long period as LO is a wiggle butt apparently, and I can't get it for a long enough time for the doppler to give an accurate heartrate #.

I agree with PPs about watching videos.  I also suggest you learn the sound of the baby's HB.  Going by the HR on the doppler is difficult because you could be picking up the baby, or an echo of the baby, or an artery.  But once you know what to listen for, you'll never mistake any other sound for the HB.  It sounds like galloping horses, or an old steam engine.

I totally agree with PP about watching a bunch of YouTube videos, it makes it much more clear what the different sounds you'll hear will be.  For me, I have much better luck finding baby in the morning before I get out of bed - I still have a full bladder and I haven't jiggled and woken the baby up.  I also second what PP have said about not relying on the doppler's counter, mine is never accurate.  Instead, use the stopwatch on your phone and count the beats for 6 seconds and then multiply that number by 10 to give you the beats/minute that you hear.  Good luck and happy hunting!

You probably did find her. Its a good ideas to watch some videos. If you hear something like a horse galloping, that's baby...if you hear more like a swooshing sound, that's most likely the blood flow through the placenta. Even when the drs check the baby on the Doppler, they usually only get the placenta.

Your high number sounds right. Baby will be really low that early on, like your hairline kinda low. The 120s, that is you...probably either the blood supply to your ute or your femoral artery.

My baby was low until very recent. I would find the HB near my pelvic bone almost always.  What I did is find the placenta that sounds like swooosh swooosh and 90% I find the hb quite near, it sounds like a train or like more toc toc toc toc. Hahaha sorry for the description! I watched videos and that helped me a lot. I also have sonoline B.

    Good luck :)

Baby would be lower. However I was never able to get an accurate reading from my Sonoline B. It would be all over the place. If I wanted an accurate reading I would usually get my husband to time 10 seconds while I counted the beats and then multiplied by 6. This isn't 100% accurate but was more accurate than the doppler was.

Thanks ladies! I found her again yesterday before I got out of bed and got the number to go 155. It is such an amazing sound! I have watched a ton of videos and I am confident that it is her. Thank you all so much!
