Paper goods we don't care but I am suuuuuuper picky about food and strongly prefer to buy locally.
So dairy is almost all Cabot except for milk and ice cream which they don't produce; my favorite milk is Stafford (It comes in a glass bottle that you return and they re-use, and you can buy "cream line" whole milk which is non-homogenized. Love.) and fave ice cream is Ben&Jerrys (of COURSE! ;-) )
Flour is King Arthur (local company but the grain itself isn't) or Gleason Grains (IS locally grown).
Eggs from our hens! Produce almost all from local farms. Meat almost all local as well which is hella expensive so we eat it less frequently or use it more as flavoring.
Bread rotates through various local bakeries (I can bake it but I feel like the pros do it better) BUT MH likes Arnold for PB&Js and Thomas english muffins. (I keep meaning to get onto making those!) Coffee also rotates through local roasters though obv it's imported. MH loves Chock Full 'o Nuts though which cracks me up! I mostly make granola for breakfast cereal buuuuut we both have a love of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and will occasionally buy a box!
I buy a lot of staples (oats, cornmeal, sugar, dried beans, rice, cooking oil, tea, most of my spices) in bulk and don't notice the brand. I do fuss over olive oil and my fave is Laurel Hill organic. Maple syrup whatever so long as it's VT grade B.
Condiments---I make a lot of mayo but when I don't it's Hellman's. I don't make ketchup and it's Heinz. Hot sauce is Choula and Sriracha. Mustard I try to make but am not picky as to brand when I don't. I make lots of salad dressing but when I don't it's Ken's --- no shame! Hahaha. I also love Tostitos salsa. ;-) I don't have a brand preference for soy sauce or vinegar. PB is Jif but one day I will make my own. Jam varies or is ours.
Peanut butter (jif) Coffee creamer (coffee mate) And if I buy bottled water I prefer Evian.

What items do you HAVE to buy name brand despite the price??
We buy only charmin TP in the blue package. Also, only buy Heinz ketchup.
Yup!! Also pop/soda (must be Coke brand), Tide, Playtex tampons, lots of things I only buy name brand on.
Things I'll buy store brand: - baby wipes (Kirkland) - crackers, chips, snacks - frozen foods
DH manages a grocery store, so we try to buy store brand because ultimately those sales increase his annual bonus. There are some items that we've tried but gone back to brand name. Most of the stuff we but is made by our preferred name brand, so it works out and e save a few bucks.

Whew! Get me going on food and I write a novel!
Have you ever raised your own chickens for meat? We started this last year and omg they are the best! But our meaters and our eggers don't get along so we had to build 2 coops.
TP—charming or quilted northern. Dish soap—love the blue Dawn. Diapers. I don't live near enough to a target to get on that bandwagon. Shampoo—buy it in the salon. Food wise, I'm a sucker for Kraft original BBQ. It's lame but I loooove it! Also, my husband loves Hidden Valley ranch out of the bottle. I prefer loft house. We buy both, along with both mayo & miracle whip.
It's funny that everyone is saying TP...we love Target brand TP and won't use anything else.
We have to buy name brand pop, tampons and pads, Hellman's Mayo, dish detergent, and shampoo and conditioner.
We used to buy Aldi brand pop which was G something, which we began calling G spot cola. We went back to Pepsi so a bit and then tried G spot cola again and it tasted like butt. I don't know how we drank it before.

OMG!! I just realized I said Playtex. I realized my error while reading that so many of you prefer Tampax.
I feel like the Tampax expand to long. They always feel like they are sticking out. It's uncomfortable.
I do prefer Playtex over Tampax because they get wide vs. long.
And onto further discussion,... I haven't used Playtex in 15 years. Lol. I actually prefer OB without the applicator. They are what works best for me and most comfortable and least waste.
Baby related: definitely diapers until they're a little older. I recently tried Up & Up diapers on LO and she had three pooplosions, complete with poop getting all up her back and ruining her clothes. That was enough for me to switch back to Pampers Swaddlers until she's a little older.
Other things: cereals, coffee, pads and tampons, toilet paper, peanut butter, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, shampoo and other hair products....
I have to buy everything name brand...I wish I could get over it but I can't. The ONLY generic I actually like is target brand stuff and even then I'll only get hand sanitizer, baby wipes, and breast milk storage bags. I'm ridiculous...
We pretty much just buy name brand soda (when we buy it...DH has never drank much soda, and my tastes changed after having Abby, and I rarely drink it anymore) and also we buy name brand coffee. Also, after I run out of my supply of Target brand wipes, I am going to start buying the Huggies natural ones. Otherwise, we buy everything generic!
Re: Name brand vs generic
Coffee creamer
Tp
Heinz ketchup
Kraft mayo
Soda
and anything used on the face
Laundry detergent
Fabric softener
