HCG level question **posible bfp mentioned**

DH and I have been TTC for two and a half years now (we were diagnosed with "unexplained IF" a year and a half ago) I went to my RE's office for a blood test on Thursday and they said my level was at 275 and said that it was considered negative until it was 300 or more. After reading up on it, I found that a level of 275 is more like 3 weeks pregnant. Why would my doctor tell me that this is representative of a negative test when anything over 25 is consideed positive? Has anyone else had any experience with this?

  • I did trigger, however that was 16 days ago, and in the past my trigger has only stayed in my system for a mx of 8 days (I testout my trigger shots with internet cheapies). I was trying to figure ou myself if they were using some sort of alternate unit of meaure, but for thelifeof me I cant find one.

That just doesn't make sense. With our loss last year my first HCG level was 280 at almost 5 weeks and took almost a month to drop back to 0.
Are you having any kind of bleeding? Are they planning another blood test?

  • I have taken home tests and gotten 3 obvious positives and 1 very very faint positive. I am not having any kind of bleeding at all. They did schedule me for another blood test tomorrow. Im just completely confused as to why my doc would call that a negative. Im just hoping that tomorrow I get a number higher than 300 so the doc is "happy with the result" and confirms what my hpt's have said.
  • Yes, it is very frustrating! And very confusing! And I will most definitely edit the topic. Thank you for the well wishes. I will post an update when I get one. And make sure I ask the doc these questions tomorrow too! Hopefully no one else has to go through this confusion.

That sounds very confusing and I'm sorry you are kind of in limbo. I have heard of betas lower than that and they resulted in perfectly healthy pregnancies. I would definitely consider 275 an awesome beta, especially for the first one. When I had my c/p, my first beta, at 9dpiui was only 7.5 and that was considered positive. Good luck with your next one. I hope it gives another strong number!

  • I'm in the confused camp too.  I was told anything over 5 was technically pregnant.  Good luck, OP!!
