Previous moms, your opinion please

I'm just curious what your MS was like for previous pregnancies. I have 2 friends (that I know for sure) who were both miserable with MS for their entire 9 months with their DD's but hardly at all with their DS's. Is this just a coincidence or did you find this to be true also??

I'm not planning on using this info to call my Baby Beans gender yet, just curious.

I had a girl, then a boy. My m/s was similar, in that I had none. Some queasiness here and there, but nothing I could really refer to as morning sickness. My heartburn was way worse with my son, and I got terrible acid reflux the last few months, but other than that, both pregnancies were surprisingly similar. I'm hoping for as easy a one this time around as well. :)

  • I didn't have any MS at all with DD, but have been sick since before I got my BFP with this LO.

Everyone I know were miserably sick their entire pregnancies, and most have girls. That said, my SIL was medicated both of her pregnancies because her MS got so bad, and she only has boys.

My mom also never had any MS with me, was sick the entire pregnancy with my sister, and then had zero MS with my brother.

So I would say it's more coincidence than anything.

  • First pregnancy: girl, no MS whatsoever

Second pregnancy: Twins, sex never determined, MS to the point where I was almost out of work.

Current pregnancy: Sex not yet determined, MS only in the car on the way home from work possibly attributed to hunger.

  • First pregnancy, I had a good amount of nausea but only one MS vomiting instance at 10 weeks. I gad a girl - so not much MS did not equal a boy for us.

I just threw up this morning for the first time this pregnancy at only 5 weeks. I'm hoping that's it but who knows I'm still so early. Only time will tell what we are having this time.
  • With DS All I had was mild nausea but never any vomiting. With this pregnancy I'm dealing with wicked nausea that subsides by lunch time. Not really sure if that means anything.

  • I had a girl the first time around and had the most awful morning sickness. This time I have the same exact level of sickness, maybe worse.

Two of my friends have girls and neither had morning sickness. Both had incredible heartburn in 3rd tri though. I had a little bit of heartburn in my last two weeks, but nothing that bad.

I had a girl, and I was pretty sick for about 14 weeks or so.

This time, I'm nauseated a lot, but no actual vomiting yet. Don't know the sex.

  • Well, when I was pregnant with my DD I was so very sick. I had awful morning sickness that lasted all day every day. It was horrendous.

This time, I am only 4 weeks and no sickness yet.

I have a friend who had two girls and she was sick with one and not with the other.

  • With ds1 I was always sick from a week before positive hpt until about 14 weeks then randomly throughout. I always laugh when people say that you can't have symptoms that early because it's been the same this time and with my mc.

A friend who has 2 boys had hyperemesis garvidarum with both pregnancies.

A second friend who has 2 boys had almost no real m/s with the first and is 23 weeks with the second (supposed) boy and is still suffering.

  • It's always the opposite in my circle for some reason. All my friends, family, and self included that had girls never had any MS at all- family and friends that had boys had significant MS in the beginning.

So far this time, still no MS, but I had some symptoms this time that are much different than with my DD so I still feel like this one might be a boy. Time will tell.

  • This sort of stuff is not grounded in science. Random people would insist to me that I was having a boy because of the way I carried dd, even after I told them the ultrasounds said girl. And she was definitely a girl. No basis to any of it.

  • I had 0 MS with my first pregnancy and it was a girl

This pregnancy is so different already.  I had no symptoms last week and thought it would go the same way as my first pregnancy.... Ah then MS came and slapped me in my face this week.  But I would call it off and on all day sickness not so much MS.

  • Again, I really appreciate all your responses. I'm not one for believing any OWT, I just know I'm over the all-day nausea.

  • This is only my second pregnancy so I can't really compare yet in regards to sex .... my first was a boy and I didn't have any significant MS at all... there may have been quick waves of queasiness in the beginning that would come and pass quickly, but I wouldn't really count it as MS.

So far, this pregnancy has had a little more nausea.... not significant enough that I can't handle it, but it comes and goes more often and for longer duration in comparison to the first time.  No vomiting yet though (fingers crossed that stays away)

  • I had such bad MS with my son. I was on meds from early on til 21 w or so. Hyperemaesis is Awful.

I'm currently in my 7th week with #3 (lost last one at 5w) and I already feel sick as a pig and struggling with the nausea. If it gets worse I will be seeing doc for meds as I'm already failing to cope with day to day stuff and having a 5 yo is tiring enough.

  • I have two sons, and the morning sickness was minimal.  This time around, I think I've had more nausea, but that could just be my imagination.
  • I was sick with DS for the first and third trimesters. My friend has 2 girls and never had m/s.

  • With DD I was extremely sick from
Week 5 to week 14. Around week 8 I got on zofran and that really helped. I lost about 12 lbs in that timeframe but the rest of the pregnancy went smoothly.

  • 2 pregnancies. Both boys. Vomited exactly once during each of those pregnancies (with DS1 it wasn't until I was actually in labor). I did have several weeks of a nasty yucky stomach feeling every afternoon/evening with both pregnancies, but no actual vomiting or what I'd call nausea.

  • 3 previous pregnancies (all girls) mild nausea. That's it. This one so far (6w4d) and every now and then I get a little nausea. My neice just had her girl and was horribly sick the first 5 months constantly throwing up.

  • First pregnancy was a boy, MS started at 6 weeks and went to 42 weeks. I threw up every day multiple times a day all the way up to the day I delivered. Ended up losing 30 pounds
  • My first pregnancy was a boy and I had morning sickness every night about 10:30 pm! Until about 4 months where I only had it here and there.

This pregnancy I'm only 6 weeks and don't know gender but I've only been randomly sick twice so fingers crossed.

Also baby #1 I couldn't keep down the prenatal vitamins, however this pregnancy so far so good. Keeping them down just fine :)
  • With my first pregnancy I had pretty bad morning sickness in the first trimester that was on and off week by week. I had a boy. This time the morning sickness isn't quite as bad, but it is worse in the evenings.

  • With DD I had MS from 8-12 weeks. This one seems to have started a bit earlier at around 7 weeks. Pretty similar though. All day queasiness and seems like one thing set it off with both and from there on, every smell is terrible. Fruit is my friend. And lemonade. And whole milk. Lol.
