Eating

I'm shocked at how much some of your LOs are eating and the variety of foods. I think it's great. I wish LO would start eating more. We offer table food, but LO still eats mostly puréed baby foods.

He's just not interested in real food, and never has been. He's not one that was eating and then started a picky phase and quit. He turned 11 months on Monday.

So, any tips or tricks to get LO to start eating would be appreciated.

Re: Eating

  • Do you ever try putting little chunks of solid foods into his mouth for him? B didn't like to touch wet stuff and would get distracted and not eat enough of anything so I ended up just popping stuff into his mouth for him. Now he does a pretty good job on his own picking up foods and eating them, but I still help him out if he gets bored before I think he's eaten enough.

@Murphie82 I mostly just put things on his tray for him to try. He will touch all if it. He grabs some in each hand. Then, he will lick it or put it to his lips, but very little goes in his mouth. I'll try sneaking more pieces in and see if he'll eat them.

@subliminalrabbit‌ J is exactly the same way. Crackers or some form of potatoes are about the extent of what he'll eat.

This! LO didn't want to pick up slimy stuff, but then we tried it on a fork and once he got used to it, he would feed it to himself. He also liked stuff he could get a good grip on even before that, like pancakes.

Also, if you haven't already, make his purees chunkier. For instance, try a mushed up banana where it's not quite puréed but not chunks either. Or if you are eating something soft like a pear yourself, mush that with a fork into an in-between consistency.

@jennOK‌ were in the same boat. Much like what @subliminalrabbit‌ said... Just keep trying. Sometimes he really surprises me! Then we will go for a week and he won't pick up anything to eat it...only throw it over the side to the pup.... Silly babies ;)
  • We started out giving lo puffs, chunks of banana, sweet potatoes and moved on from there. Those seemed to help him like table food more.
