Crap my supervisor says...

My supervisor asked me if pediatric & pedicure both begin with "pedi" then how can they be so different.

Shouldn't your supervisor KNOW how much you make??  So odd.

My supervisor doesn't know what anyone in our department makes & always has me look it up.

  • Not only should she KNOW, but I imagine it has to be like, you know, matching the IRS/W2!!
  • I often wonder what my staff thinks I say that is stupid lol

But here's something my staff did that I think was stupid. A client brought the office cupcakes because of how much she enjoyed the services. She also got us a card. I didn't find out about this until I was about to leave at about 5:30. She brought them in some time that morning. I only found out because one of my interns (who is really too busy to stop and chat until the end of the day) brought it up in conversation -_- meanwhile there's exactly one cupcake left with no icing. WTF?

My supervisor is hella country and says things like:

    "I not know."

    "Vicey-Versey." Instead of vice versa.

    "That not good."

"Your truth is different from my truth, and we're both right."

I don't know how I got up here. :( Anyway...

    @zerozeroone

My supervisor tells me to fax people & then call them immediately to make sure they got it.

Because...it's not 2014 & we don't have email. Or common sense.

My boss will have me email a vendor and then ask when they're going to respond. Like I can pull out my crystal ball and magically know when they're going to get back to me.

    @jensavicci

Saying a couple of stupid things isn't a huge deal...we all do it. It's the constant stupid things that just make me wonder how in the world he ties his shoes every day.

He told one guy that works here that in the event that a tornado strikes he needed to lock the front doors before running for the storm shelter. Hey supervisor, why don't YOU lock the doors since it's such a huge honkin' deal when a tornado is hovering over our heads?!

Yesterday I was really, really worried about baby because his movement was very different and much more subtle than before. After a sleepless night and then spending most of the morning/early afternoon paying close attention to his movements, I made the call to my OB's office and they said I should come in immediately if I had any concerns at all.

So I went and told my boss I was going to leave and run to my OB to check on baby (after I explained how I was worried about his movement.)

Boss looks at me and then goes, "But what about the schedule?"

Seriously?  If I'm afraid for baby's health, who cares about the schedule?  There's other people to cover for me if needed.  ('Cause they're gonna have to do that when baby comes anyway.)

Luckily, by the time I got back to work after the quick ultrasound I think she came to her senses because she said she'd forgotten how much FTMs can worry about their little ones when things change with them.  Phew.

(And for the record, baby is totally fine and apparently was playing hide and go seek behind the anterior placenta.  I just knew I couldn't go a long holiday weekend without being sure.)

Heh, me too.  Much rather him playing hide and seek than the doomsday scenarios going through my mind!

  • I'd like to add, "crap random strangers say to me". We were out to dinner with my dad and sisters, and I took DS to the restroom with me since he was getting restless waiting for his food. As we were washing our hands some lady comes up to the sink next to us and proceeds to say, "wow they sure are cute, but a lot of work. You're going to have your hands full, ya know." *mental facepalm* oh gee I had no idea that having a toddler and a newborn would be hard. I thought it was going to be the easiest thing everrrrr.

  • My old boss used to go on religious tirades for as long as an hour, but it usually lasted 15-20 minutes a day. Then he'd threaten us by saying that he knew the workplace rules on freedom of religion and he crossed NO boundaries. I was the only non-religious person in the office, and one time I told him that I thought evangelical christian preachers were a little creepy. I was "laid off" a week later for "not fitting in to the office culture".

Wtaf??? I hope you nailed him for wrongful termination and discrimination.

Nothing pisses me off more than when my sales manager calls me to have me call another co-worker and tell that person to call the sales manager. Why? Why does he do this? Drives me nuts! I frequently respond with "really? you want me to call someone and tell them to call you. Like instead of you just calling them directly??" His answer is always yes. I keep asking, in hopes that someday he will realize how stupid he is.
  • @livelaughlove88 I was in Washington State. You can fire anyone for any reason in Washington. Right to Work law. Awesome, right? And he put it down as "laid off" even though he hired another girl from his church right after I left.

  • You can fire someone for any reason here in Iowa too, if you present yourself as an "at will" employer, but you can still get in trouble for wrongful termination. Really it just means you would owe the former employee unemployment pay, but at least that's something.

He gave me a few thousand dollars as hush money... I think. He also gave me a great reference and I got a decent job because of him. So I guess it turned out well in the end. It was totally weird, though.

My boss asked me what was wrong today, I told her I was just really tired. She responded by telling me I had no right to be tired bc she worked a 16 hour day on Thursday and the most I've worked all week is a 10 hour day.

Don't ask if you don't want to know what's wrong! She has no right to be tired if she's comparing 10 hrs pregnant to 16 hours not!

Even if you weren't pregnant, just because she worked a longer day doesn't mean you can't be tired too! That's ridiculous.

  • Not a supervisor (cuz I'm my own boss) but just a lot of people in general.
Wtf is up with the comment I get anytime a child is handed to me (or has a full diaper near me) lately. "Oh you hold him/her (or change the diaper) YOU NEED THE PRACTICE"

Yes I'm a FTM but I've also been a children's photographer for 15 years, I have held more babies than most people! Holding your upset toddler won't make me more prepared to hold my newborn.

And really I've changed my share of diapers, of your child shat itself I don't need the practice, clean your own mess. (I'm more than happy to do it if the mom or dad is busy but not for the sake of freaking "practice")

Ohhhhhh fuck that nonsense. I would have none of it. Thanks but I'll be up to my eyeballs in dirty diapers soon enough, I'm going to enjoy these last few weeks without them and let you be responsible for your own child!

She's also told me I can't have my baby till after her birthday (my due date is 2 days prior.) So that way she can have her birthday weekend off and I can manage the dept. I'm going to invest in some duct tape for my vag so DD doesn't slip out! She's a real gem!

This cannot be real! I would've just laughed hysterically and walked away.

My supervisor said to me today -
"You have handled this pregnancy so much better than your first. Because this time you know what to do & you don't just listen to the doctors." I said, "Also I haven't had morning sickness for 9 solid months. That helps."

So now my supervisor is also an OBGYN apparently.
