NBR: Rehabbing an old laptop

Hi guys!

I have decided I want to try and get a laptop (Dell studio 1555) that I bought I believe in 2009-2010 working again. It doesn't "not work" per se but it is super laggy. My only real goal is to be able to browse the internet on it and use it for blogging/forums/looking up baby products.

I'd LOVE to keep my word software on it- but if I have to get rid of that to get it working it'd be okay.

Do any of you ladies have any experience with computer stuff? I have deleted a lot of old programs and files but didnt find it made a huge difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much guys. :)

  • The average life of a laptop is 3-5 years.  I'd consider investing in a new one.

My husband just got an amazing touch screen Lenovo for $499.  (In Canada... If you are in the US, you can probably do even better than that.)

There are also Chromebooks in the $300 range.  It sounds like one of those will be sufficient if all you want to do is fiddle on the internet.

I have a chromebook and it's great for just surfing the web, checking email, etc.  Economical too!

ETA: It also has google's version of word, excel, etc.

@moroccojade @missnacholover Thanks ladies! If I can't get it running faster I'll probably just tough it out with our desk top (which is nice.. but I cant use it on the couch) or a tablet. I just sometimes miss the ease of a laptop.
