2 month shots

DS is 7.5 weeks but we're going on a flight next Friday and the Dr said he could get his 2 month shots today so he would be immunized for the airport. Poor thing got 3 shots in the thighs. He cried at first and then after holding him and the pacifier he fell asleep for a few hours. He just woke up about 5 hrs after the shots not wanting to eat or be put down, just inconsolable tearful cries. He's never like this he's usually a very happy baby. Thank god I had infant Tylenol already at the house so we busted that open and 30 min later he fell asleep on my chest. But now I can't move or he'll wake up and whimper/cry. Ah this breaks my heart. Poor little guy. His chunky thighs are all red and swollen. Anyone else get their shots yet? How long does this last for? The Ped made it sound like he would be sleepy for a few days.

  • We got ours today too. I cried. He cried. It wasn't pretty. My LO has been really sleepy all day and pretty fussy. He's usually a really happy baby so it's breaking my heart. I'm a FTM so no clue how long this lasts. Hopefully not a few days.

  • I was just going to ask this. What shots do they get,? I was reading online a little bit and came across possibly 6 shots at once???? That seams crazy to me :-(
  • we got ours today too. i gave him tylenol and it seems to be helping so far. he is pretty fussy and clingy but will sit in his swing and just fell asleep. i hope it doesn't bother him all weekend

  • Tylenol is magical right now. I'd definitely recommend having it on hand before you go get their shots. He's sleeping but still quite clingy and a little whimpering. Poor guy. It was 3 injections and one oral. I think it was Pneumococcal, HIB, Hep B, DTaP, Polio, Rotavirus. So one of the shots had 3 of those in one and rotavirus was oral solution he swallowed

  • I'm planning a 3 hour road trip to my aunts lake house the day after LO's shots- I hope the clinging and fussing only lasts the day of the shot and not much after!
  • Poor babies! Just remember a bit of discomfort is much better than a serious illness! I always give the boob DURING the shot. Doc might think you're cray cray but my son always barely cried! Just stopped nursing for a moment, screamed, and nuzzled back in.

  • I hate the look they give you when it's happening, not looking forward to it. If i remember correctly, my kids were really sleepy the day of the shots and fine the next day.

Our LO had her shots today too and I agree that nursing during the appointment makes a big difference.

I nursed LO a bit before the shots as the public health nurse and I chatted, then the nurse gave LO her oral rotavirus solution and three shots (one in the left leg and two in the right) and then I nursed her again. She only cried a bit during the shots but after I nursed her she just fell asleep. I've also been giving her Tylenol every 5 hours but she is still a bit clingy/fussy. Broke my heart to see her cry but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
  • LO got one shot a 1 month visit in order to spread them out and ease the pain. I managed to rock him into a drowsy state while I waited on the nurse so it only took a minute to calm him down and rock him back to sleep afterwards. The cry/silent-scream they get afterwards is enough to break your heart. I felt so bad for the little guy.
