April 2014 Moms

Well the Mamaroo seems to have been a total waste of $

Someone highly recommended these so we bought one for DD. I have gotten her to sit in it once but recently I put her in it and she starts fussing almost right away. None of the motions seem to soothe her. Fortunately someone had also given us a swing so I set that up the other day and success! She loves it.

These Mamaroos are only useful for a short period. Would you keep trying it, try to sell it second hand, or try to return it? Does anyone else's LO really not care for it either? I am bummed because this was our one splurge.

  • That's the problem with stuff like that. You can spend $300 on a mamaroo and baby might prefer the $20 bouncy seat!! Sorry!

@Rrrrrachel‌ - I know. We did get sort of a deal on it, as we bought it through the BRU gear trade in, but still.

    Edited: spelling

  • Just a thought but if you are planning on more kids you might want to hold on to it. All kids are different. I am finding this LO has very different taste in baby gear than her sister did. Then again it might be better to get as much $$ as you can for it now.
  • Mine hates it too. Holding onto it though hoping it comes in handy in a couple of weeks. Probably wishful thinking.
  • Maybe keep trying? I have a Rockaroo. Sometimes I put Jack in it and he freaks out, sometimes he falls asleep, and sometimes he hangs out alert but content.
  • @juniper75‌ - that is a good suggestion but this is the last kiddo. I will try it a few more times and then maybe see what I can get for it on a local mom swap board on FB.

  • I was afraid of this, and since Emma will only tolerate the swing for about 5 minutes at a time, I'm glad I didn't spend the $$$ on the mamaroo.

  • My baby tolerates the mamaroo for 10 minutes while awake then cries and needs to be held. Same with the bouncer and rocker and swing (:|
  • Luckily, our sweetie loves it! That's where she sleeps her 5 hour stretch at night. It's been a lifesaver. However, she won't touch it during the day. Babies can be so funny!
  • She has not been able to focus on the mobile yet. I'll try again in a few days. Maybe there is hope!

My LO hates the mamaroo. But she could swing all day... Ugh. We had the swing handed down to us and it doesn't even work, I have to manually push it... So wish we would have just registered for a normal swing. FIGURES!
  • My baby loves the mamaroo . I use it so much . I just wish they weren't so expensive (rockaroo is cheaper version but only has one setting ) because I d love to have a second one for upstairs. I have to drag it upstairs every night he loves it that much .

  • I really wanted one but have heard so many mixed reviews so I got cold feet. Currently borrowing a my little snuggabunny swing from my neighbour. She's having her 2nd in July though so I'm going to need to give it back soon!
My SIL told me that she has, "the exact same one" and would give me hers. Well she brought it over and it's a POS cheapy that was like the same colours lol. Only takes batteries too. I might give it to the MIL to have at her place and invest in my own swing here soon. Penny seems to enjoy the one we've borrowed quite a bit. She especially likes to look up at herself in the little Mirror. I get the cutest little noises and facial expressions out of her when she's focused on the mirror!

It took a while for her to start to tolerate the bouncer but she's just now starting to enjoy it. I'd hang on to your mamaroo for a while longer. You should be able to get close to what you paid for it through a buy/sell page. Just state that your LO never took to it and it's hardly used. Knock off 20 bucks and put OBO and see what happens!

Like with any baby item it's going to be a hit or miss. For us it's a huge hit. She loves that thing and is the only way we can get her to sleep sometimes and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

If it isn't working for you and you have the option to return it then I would. But if your return period has lapsed I would hold onto it if you plan to have more kids.
