Weights and feeding?

Hi all- my boys were born at 4.12 and 5.2 and 17 inches at 36 weeks. At 19 weeks they are now and 24 inches and 17 pounds. The dr says their growth is happening to quickly. They eat 4 oz every three hours and occasionally will skip a night feed or only take two oz. during nighttime. I don't want them to be overweight but I really don't think we are over feeding them. My husband is a big guy (6.2 and 250) and I am just assuming they will be big kids. Anyone have weight concerns like this? Am I feeding them too much? I feel like half the time they are still hungry.

Re: Weights and feeding?

  • Doesn't sound like too much too me. My twins are only 3.5 and sometimes take 4 ounces - they're gaining, but not at a ridiculous weight and my pedi said it was fine. Feed them if they seem hungry. My pedi said they wont over eat and at 19 weeks 4 ounces seems completely reasonable.

Yeah.... Your ped sounds off. My 6week old boys born at 38w are 12 lbs 9 oz (7lbs 13 at birth) and 10lbs 11.9oz (5lbs 13oz)and their pedi is proud of them... They eat the exact same as yours- amount and times.

    Edit- posted too soon

  • Should have clarified- it's their GI dr at children's hospital of Philadelphia. She said anything over 85% was overweight and my twin a is 81%. She said not to restrict as of yet but we need to keep an eye on it and that over feeding could be reason for their reflux. Didn't give all info in original post - was nursing and half asleep lol.
