Another pumping at work Q

Tonight marks my first shift back to work. I work on a 911 ambulance working 730pm-730am and I'm allowed to call out of service when I need to pump. Should I pump when I normally feed LO? That would be around 9pm and 6 am (she is STTN). The problem is I usually get engorged around 4-5am and I manually express a little around that time. I'm afraid I'll get a call around 4 am and I'll be engorged and in pain. Should I call out of service and pump around 4am or is that going to screw my body up? I'm working part time so this will only happen about once a week.

Pump when you feel like you need to.

As long as you pump, it's not going to mess with your supply.

Ok thanks! That answers my questions!
  • I try and pump to as close to when LO eats, but it doesn't fall exactly. I do it when I have a break...it will take a few days for you to feel comfort and find a schedule to work.

  • I pump every 3 hours which is about DS schedule at the sitter's.

Same here.  If for some reason I feel full beforehand I will go at it a little earlier.  Good luck back on your first shift!! ((hugs))

Thank you! I hope MH can survive on his own for 12 hrs! Lol
  • I work 12 hour nights too. I pump before I leave, between 10 and midnight and then between 4&5. I nurse DD and pump the opposite side before going to bed until 3ish. So far so good!

I think I might just copy your schedule!

  • It worked with DD1 :) once solids start I can drop that second pump at work (hopefully)
