Baby is Sick :(

I'm pretty sure my baby girl has a cold! I feel so terrible that this happened. I feel like it's my fault for not being more careful with her. :( We're pretty sure my husband got her sick. He has a really good immune system, so he thought he just had allergies. Mine have been acting up too, so it wasn't that hard to believe that's all his was. (He had a bit of a cough though, and she does too.)

Has anyone else's baby gotten sick this early? I feel so bad for her. :((

Re: Baby is Sick :(

  • Yah my toddler got our baby sick. Nice green boogers for awhile. Luckily no fever though and she seems to be on the mend.

  • My toddler got the baby sick too...1 week old and he had a cold, poor kiddo. We got crazy lucky with DS1 and he didn't get sick until this past March so a sick baby is new territory for me. We sucked his nose out a few times a day and when his breathing got wheezy at night I brought him in bed with me, propped myself up with pillows, and put him on my chest so his head would be elevated and he slept so much better. We're still sucking boogers out of him at least 1-2 times a day but thankfully it never got worse than a runny nose.

  • Our LO had a fever of 100.4 for a few days straight a week ago. We took him to the doc and the doc thought that it was just a viral infection. It made me super nervous though and I was checking his temp several times a day for days. Once he stopped feeling warm (that was the only symptom that he had) I stopped checking. But not before I called the doc several more times to talk to a nurse about his progress.
  • My LO started with his cold last Friday - post nasal drip, stuffy nose, and a mild cough when his throat was tickled by the post nasal drip. It didn't make him grumpy or anything, he just sounded awful and I had to keep sucking green boogers out of his nostrils with the bulb. Today, he finally feels better.

  • Yes DS had 100.7 fever, was listless and therefore we brought to ER. After a ton of tests they determined viral infection likely caught from my toddler that still attends daycare. So scary. So he's had a cold..very congested, coughing but symptoms getting better. Hope your LO feels better soon!!

Had my 8 week old in the ER last Friday with a fever 100.4. She had a full body rash, stopped eating for about 9 hours, and was very fussy.   So scary!  The doc thought she caught a virus.  She is finally feeling better now.  Nothing worse then a sick baby!!!
  • I have my lo a cold! I have no idea how I got sick and I tried everything to keep him from getting it. Glad I am BF as by the time he caught it, he had my antibodies. No fever, just a snotty nose and cough. I felt and still do feel terrible. Bad mom award here!
  • Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry for the ones that had fevers. That's so scary. :( I'm really hoping she doesn't get one. I'll be beside myself if she does!

What did y'all do to help baby? So far I've done a round of saline drops and have the humidifier going. She's been wanting to eat every 2 hours, but I don't know if that's related or not.

  • Keep feeding her to help her stay hydrated. It's a good sign if she has wet diapers (more than 2 a day while sick is what doc told me) and wants to eat. And keep checking her temp to make sure that a fever doesn't develop
  • I'm wondering if I should wake to feed her in order to keep her hydrated then? I'm also worried about keeping up with sucking out her snot and all that. She woke me up with her coughing a couple times about half an hour ago (she slept through it), and I've been monitoring her since then. Her nose breathing sounds rattly/snorty at times, if that makes sense. She's slept up to 6 hours before. I don't know if I should wait that long.

  • At night I let him sleep but during the day I offered LO breast milk every 2 hrs (we had been going longer stretches).
  • My 7 week old has his first cold, too. No fever, thankfully! He probably caught it from our most recent onslaught of visitors. Unfortunately, I have it now, as well- which makes caring for him doubly difficult. And today my SO is insisting on having a BBQ for more relatives. Ridiculous.
  • I let my lo sleep. It's the bodies way of recovering. As long as your lo is eating well throughout the day she should be fine. But do clean the nostrils when she wakes up. Makes a world of difference!
  • @alittlelibrary‌ That IS ridiculous! I'd hull up in the room with baby and refuse to come out.
