With my minivan. Seriously. Today was maddening. Like I had to put him down and walk away crying so I didn't shake him. I feel awful even typing that.

But that is how frustrated, tired, and angry I am. For me and for him. He is exhausted and miserable.
It has been five days of 23 hour wearing. (We tapered up to that over the five previous days) When he is tired but the helmet is bugging him, he goes nuts. He won't be held, won't lay down with out screaming, he won't sleep, he writhes around like he is being tortured for anywhere from 15-60 minutes. During most wake times he is ok. But most naps and overnights are nightmares.
I don't see any super red spots, we are using Aquaphor to help his skin adjust, and taking his hour break as prescribed. We are keeping him dressed lightly but of course his head still sweats like crazy. The orthotist said some babies take longer than others to adjust and that the fit seems okay. But he already has to deal with all his feeding issues, and it is TEARING ME UP to see him scratching at his head and screaming his brains out because he is tired and can't get comfortable.
He has been through so much with his NG tube, all the procedures, etc. I just got the paperwork for the feeding clinic he has to go to and it is a two hour appointment. At nap time. He rarely eats when rested. A two hour feeding at nap time?? Wth?? This sweet child can't catch a break.
I finally just wrestled him down after his first wake up for the night. Probably many more to come. I know the helmet will help and that he needs it. But I still just want to scream right now. If any helmet moms have any tips, PLEASE send them my way.
Sorry for the novel. If anyone read it, thanks for listening. I feel like no one IRL understands all that I'm going through, but somehow just getting it out here makes me feel a teeny tiny bit better.

**P/SAIF welcome!**
Our son got his helmet on Monday. I get the sweaty head and adjustment period--it is tough! But hang in there. Our orthotist actually recommended starting right away with the 23 hours a day, and not doing any ramp up, so that he would just get used to it and not think about it as an option/something new every time it was put on/taken off. We just use the baby shampoo, not the alcohol, and so far it doesn't smell. But maybe it will with time?
Hope the ice cream was good, and just remember you are doing great things for your son--and some day he will appreciate them, even if he can't right now!
I think you picked a fine way to deal with it, bad feelings are allergic to Ben and Jerry. Repeat as needed.
More hugs and thoughts headed your way from me!
And LOLZ @Jenball717. The pharmacist in me appreciated the repeat as needed. Thanks for making me (literally) laugh out loud.

These helmets do work well. DS1 had his for 6 weeks with awesome results (I posted his before and after pics a while ago). DS2 has had his for about 7 weeks. We find out Wednesday if he is done with his or needs 2 more weeks. I have noticed a big change in his head shape too.
