I have a cover. I used it occasionally, but I don't like nursing with anything. I doubt I'll cover very often this time. I would start with a blanket to see if you even care to be covered.
BFP#2 7/3/13. U/S at 6w4d showed 1 heartbeat at 127 bmp and 2 empty sacs. MMC discovered at 10w4d. D&C 8/27/13. Pathology showed normal boy. Missing our babies every day. BFP#3 10/29/13! Beta#1 at 4w5d - 2141, beta#2 at 5w1d - 7651! U/S 11/21/13 showed baby measuring 2 days ahead with a heartbeat of 127 bmp!
Yes, I think they are a waste of money and nothing screams "Hey everyone, I'm breastfeeding!!!" like a nursing cover. I prefer to use a scarf or light blanket (receiving blankets are good). If I have a sweater with me, I can use that as a cover too.
Or you can use nothing, once the breastfeeding relationship is well established, if you are comfortable with that. Honestly, that's what I usually do.

I have the Bebe au Lait nursing cover, and I used it all the time with my daughter. I never covered up while at home, but I was more comfortable being covered while nursing in public. I liked the nursing cover more than a blanket. I didn't have to worry about the Bebe au Lait slipping off since it hooked around my neck. I nursed for 15 months and I used it a lot, so it was definitely worth the money.
I used the cover my mom bought all of once, I think. Its just another thing to remember, deal with and locate when it gets shoved somewhere on the go. I wore my son and the cloth wraps and slings I had were enough. Other wise a blanket is much better and has many more potential uses.
I didn't care for mine. It got hot and I couldn't see LO at all. It was just a pain. I didn't nurse much in public... But did need something for nursing in the hospital with ppl coming in and out, and nursing at home with visitors. I'm going to try a scarf this time... Hoping it works.
I used mine a good bit. Especially if I had baby in the carrier and could nurse hands free. I was also dealing with a toddler too so needed spare hands and something to keep her from exposing me. There are free ones where you just pay shipping. I'd suggest that route.
I hated my cover that I had with DS - this time I got these awesome muslin swaddling blankets that are super light and breathable for the baby, and I think I'm just going to use those to cover as well when I'm in public.
Depends on your comfort level. Personally I doubt I'll use a cover at all this time around b/c I'm totally comfortable NIP (plus nursing tops are designed to reveal very little especially when LO is attached). Keep in mind if you're using a blanket baby can easily kick it off. Also at some point most babies refuse to be covered up while nursing so it's pointless anyway. I have a nursing cover that I got for $3 at a consignment store and it was more than adequate and still is if I decide I want to use it.
I have a nursing cover. Ive used it a couple times. But always used the babies blanket. I just received a promo code in the mail for a nursing cover. Only pay the shipping. DM Ill give you the information.
I used blankets with DS. Love the Aden & Anais muslin one the best because it breathes and is bigger than a receiving blanket so no mishaps with it keeping it on ( except when DS started pulling if off... He hated being covered as he got older lol but he needed it to stay focused). Probably a waste for the cover but I may go for the muslin bebe au lait one this time around just to try it out.
I like having a cover, it was easier to see what was going on and DD couldn't pull it off. I got mine on clearance for $7, 1 wouldn't spend a lot for one.

I used an Adan + Anais muslin swaddle blanket (very light weight, large) early on when I was more conscious about nursing in public. By about 2 months, I was not phased by nursing in public and I stopped using anything. I never had a specific cover and would probably only get one after I determined that it was something I wanted/was going to use. Newborns are small and not wiggly so blankets easily cover them.
I tried using a receiving blanket in the beginning with DS, but it always fell off when he moved. I bought a Hooter Hider and I liked it much better. It wasn't a waste of money for me at all. I even used it while pumping at work until I got convinced nobody was going to barge in on me.

DD1 was the opposite, without the cover she was way too distracted by everything around her, as soon as I put it on she would settle down and eat.
Very true, DS definitely went through a very distractable phase, but he would violently fuss and kick the cover off, so that didn't work for him. Eventually he got through that and wasn't so distracted so it wasn't much of an issue that he was uncovered. Of course, different things will work for each mama/baby!
FTM, but I will be using a cover unless I am alone or only around DH or my mom. I'm pretty modest though (only about my boobs showing oddly) and have large breasts (DDD pp), so I think that the price tag is worth my comfort. I actually did research and picked one that seemed to provide the best coverage, but I could also look down and see the baby. I put it on my registry and someone bought it for me, so we'll see what I think after I receive it at my shower. For now, that's my plan though!
I'm a FTM, but I'm going to try just using nursing shirts. I've talked to a lot of friends who nursed and said that their babies hated the blankets and hated their face being covered while nursing. Said it was much easier when baby could look around... But again, FTM here, so not going to presume things will go exactly as I plan.
I never bothered with my first but didn't really nurse in public so it wasn't a thing.
If I'd been bought one, I might use it but as it stands, I'll just keep a light scarf in my changing bag in case I offend passers-by although I'd rather be uncovered as much as possible. Not that I let my boobs loose or anything, its just going to be way more comfortable over summer than having a blanket over me and minime.
The scarf would tie on easier so scarf or nursing cover have the advantage over blankets when walking around feeding.
While DD was learning to bf I preferred a cover. Mine had a little plastic loop in it that kept it off her face and away so we could sit and look at each other. In the beginning DD was on and off the boob a lot so there was a lot of nipple shots.
Once DD learned how to nurse, we seldom used a cover. It was just easier to do without. I don't like using blankets as they do tend to smother where my cover was very lightweight fabric.

I found a cover on clearance for $4.00, I just threw it in my hosp bag just in case. I will see what works best I figured for 4 bucks ehh I can give it a try...THANK YOU LADIES
I had a bebe au lait for my first, but ended up not using it very often. I just nursed without a cover and decided it wasn't really a big deal and so much easier.
