What did you do with your wedding dress? I've only been sitting on mine for five years while I debate...

Not preserved, but sitting in a box somewhere at my mom's house. My dress had a lot of tulle on the skirt and I kept stepping on it with my heels, so there are a lot of rips and mud on it.

I'm a SS. It's sitting in the garment bag in my closet the same way it has been since two days after our wedding.

  • I sad SS bc it's in a bag under my bed. I don't consider that preserved.

  • I am getting married in October!!! So my dress is being made! Here a picture of me two three weeks after Grace was born. My mother turned her train into our christening gown. I was going to use it for Grace but she screamed the three times I tried.

Mine is in a garment bag in the closet in my craft room, where its been for the last 4 years lol Hasn't been preserved or anything. I saw some really cute pictures of little girls in their moms wedding dresses on Pinterest that I'd like to try, but I have no other plans.

  • It's preserved in a spacebag under the bed.. My sister got her's professionally preserved for a couple hundred bucks and has this big ass box and not a clue what to do with it. No thanks.

Dry cleaners can do it. They clean it, treat it to prevent discoloration and box it up.

  • I wore a dress from Rue 21. It's hanging in my closet so I can wear it this summer after my mom sees straps on it
  • I had it preserved but I don't know why. I don't want DD wearing it. In fact if she asked, I'd decline and tell her she should have her own dress. So I don't know why I am hanging on to it. Maybe I'll donate it to one of those military bride operations.

  • @Sugarland726 I really like that idea, I'm going to look into the military bride thing.

@PreDempsey, says they only accept gowns less than 5 years old. Mine is 7. So, not sure what I will do now, but it might work for you. https://www.bridesacrossamerica.com/

  • I still need to have the beer cleaned off the bottom! I was going to but then I got KTFU. Gah. I plan to at least have it cleaned and then store in a space bag.

  • One of my NICU mom friends donated hers to some place that makes gowns for babies who are stillborn or pass away in the hospital. Sad but nice
  • Not preserved...in the garment bag in my closet.

  • I'm with the majority, hanging in a garment bag in my spare room closet. Meant to get it preserved but probably too late now

I voted preserved it because that's closest to my situation, but it's actually just sitting in a garment back in my closet (for almost 2 years). I don't plan to ever get rid of it, but I'm not really sure why I want to keep it. I know it's very unlikely any of my daughters will want to wear it, I just can't bring myself to give it away or sell it.

  • Davids bridal cleaned and preserved mine and boxed it up for 100 bucks. I like the box because the front is clear so I can see the dress. :)

I found someone near-ish me that does this and I've been really thinking about doing it. Can you imagine having to ask someone to go to the baby store to buy an outfit for your lost baby? She also had volunteers that help in various ways (cards, food, shoulder to cry on)

  • I made stuff with it. I made a little pillow and had our wedding date embroidered on it. I also made 2 sets of cuff links and 2 necklaces out of the lace in the train for my future children and inlaws on their wedding days. My grandmother also made a little dress for my "future" daughter or granddaughter! (wishful thinking on her part, she really wants me to have a daughter)

I should add that I tried to redonate my dress to the breast cancer foundation I got it from but they would not take it back.

Ss. I let my friend borrow mine for her wedding. It's still in the bag in my closet since she gave it back to me.

    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • I did a "rock the dress" photo shoot as my way of preserving the memories of my dress, then sold it less than 1 month after the wedding for what I paid for it plus alterations.  I'm not super sentimental about these things and I needed the cash. ;)

They make a lot of the gowns in preemie and micro preemie sizes too, which you can't really buy at a store.
  • I donated mine to brides against breast cancer in honor of my grandmother.

  • I have mine saved but not specially preserved. I thought about selling it but I think I would regret that on years to come, especially if I ever have a daughter, I know I enjoyed trying my moms dress on!
