Growth Spurts...

When exactly do they happen, how long do they last and how did baby act during it?! DD is on my boob every 45 min will not let me put her down, screams blood curdling screams, only sleeps in K'Tan, but at night will sleep in RNP...but only 2 hr stretches instead of 4-5hr like she has been... I'm on the edge of my sanity... Btw...it's day 2 of this...

I don't have an answer but I'm having a day like that today and DS is in his 4th week. He's finally sleeping after screaming and fussing since about 10 am so I'm afraid to put him down. So tired and falling asleep in the glider so I'm trying to distract myself to stay awake. So much for nap when he naps! Hope it gets better for you soon.
  • We had one around then too...but we're 6 weeks Friday, si I was wondering if there's a timeline that's universal for babies or they have them at their own pace?! Sorry I'm a FTM, I'm clueless and too tired to google...

  • I'm a FTM to, last week LO was four weeks and she seemed very fussy and hardly slept and was eating every two hours. Since Monday she has seemed to be less fussy, less hungry, and sleeping better. Hopefully this will last a little while.
  • The Wonder Weeks app/book tells when they go through leaps in their mental development. Not sure what it means for physical growth spurts but I bet they're related.

  • My LO is 5.5 wks and we are going through the same thing. We are on day 2 and it's miserable over here.

This chart outlines the growth spurts... We are finishing up the first one - last about 4 days for us. Good luck mommies!
  • The growth spurt talk makes me nervous. My LO is going to be 4 weeks in Sunday and we haven't experienced any of this. I'm not sure if I should feel lucky or nervous. :-/

  • I have literally been nursing all night...she will not go to sleep. She was screaming, I put her in her RNP because I had to pee...then I went to get a bottle, I only have 1 & 1/2 oz pumped...she stopped crying I thought something happened to her went running...no she's asleep. I feel like a failure and like I'm drowning. DH didn't even stir, meanwhile I'm over here ugly crying and having a panic attack.
  • Just finished the 6 wk growth spurt over here as well. Went from sleeping a 5-6 hr stretch to literally not sleeping at all. If it helps it seems she has come out of it now and is napping perfectly during the day, sleeping 5-7 hrs at night and is happier during the day than she has ever been! Ours lasted 3 days though

  • LO hit 4 weeks yesterday...feel like we are going through the same thing. He is constantly on the boob and is only taking little cat naps in my arms, as soon as I put him down he is wide awake. I broke down and even tried a pacifier, worked at first but didn't last long so needless to say he is back on the boob!

Is a 4 week growth spurt possible? Seems like everyone else is expierincing this at 3 or 6 weeks...
  • DD is 5.5 weeks and we just finished going through the exact same thing. It was such a relief to get back to 5 hour stretches again. Hopefully, it will go by quickly for you guys!!

I'm not BFing ....but my LO must be going through some developmental changes because he seems to want the bottle every 1.5-2 hrs as opposed to every 2-4 hrs. Ugh.....he is lucky he is cute! LOL

  • The Wonder Weeks doesn't work for my kid. But that week six growth spurt was a son of a gun.
  • My boy is 4w 5d and has been doing similar things for the past 4 days. Will sleep longer at night still, but during the day will wake himself up, cry for a few minutes then fall back to sleep if held and calmed down.

LO will be six weeks tomorrow and I am dreading the growth spurt. She has been sleeping all day today which she never does and all I can think is uh oh she's gearing up for something big. Funny how you get to a point where you are stressed even when they do sleep......
