So I'm new to all of this and an aquintance of mine is due this weekend in which I saw a post of hers on instagram. She just posted a nursery photo that has a daybed in it. Does anyone know the benefits of having a daybed and not a rocker?
Huh. I don't know of any benefits, but I know our nursery is waaaaaay too small to fit a daybed!
The one piece of furniture we DID spend a good chunk of money on was the glider. We had to get an extra tall backing for it (DH is 6' 4", so most of the regular in store backings only came up to his shoulders). Some women never use their gliders. We rock DD to drowsy in it still every night we're home. It was a nice tool in the colic fight some days.
The upside to a daybed, though, I would think is that you can essentially sleep in your LO's room. Say, idk, LO has a bad night and is up all the time, less need to walk across the house. I imagine it would be useful for people whose LO's nap in cribs. Then, if momma is tired enough and has time, napping in the daybed is probably easy and convenient.
It probably doubles as a guest room. Or they had the daybed already and no other place to put it. That was the case for us before we moved. It's now my 3 year old's bed so he used it eventually.
When people talk about day beds in the baby's room I just think of pictures of parents passed out in the crib with their child. I guess I'd rather have a daybed to pass out on than try to fit in the crib with the baby.

I don't think it's an either/or. They serve different purposes. A daybed is so you can sleep in there, if you want to. A glider is for rocking, (comforting, feeding, etc).
I agree with the others that it shoudn't be one or the other. I would have never made it without my glider.
We "unintentionally" ended up with a mattress on the floor in LO's room for about a month when he was real young. He started in a bassinett in our room, and we had visitors that we put in his room on the mattress on the floor. After they left, we decided to try and transition him to his crib in his room. This was more challenging than we had expected, so we ended up using that mattress on the floor to be in there with him to help the transition. It was super convenient, but I don't think I want to do it again.
My point with all of this is that I can totally see the benefit of an actual bed in the room if you ever need it. I am sure it is just a personal preference thing. I am hoping to NOT stay in my baby's room this time if I can avoid it.
DS2's nursery was also our guest room and I LOVED having a bed in there. I would nurse him in bed if he woke early in the morning and we'd both get to go back to sleep. If he was having a rough night I could sleep in there with him. Then when we had guests, he'd come in our room in his pack n play. I wouldn't however have a bed instead of a rocker/glider personally because I used (and still use) that glider daily.

Our guest room turned into our nursery, so we kept the twin bed in there and I love it! It allows at least one of us to sleep in our own bed soundly while the other wakes up and tends to/feeds the baby and sometimes sleep in there. If you have a rotten sleeper, it is great IMO.
We have a queen bed in ds's room. Our rocker actually doesn't fit in there b/c of it. we put the rocker in our room b/c he started out in with us. It's nice to have an extra bed for guests & I can lay in there when I need to. It was nice b/c when we transferred ds to his own room we actually slept in there for a couple of night until he got used to his new room.
I wish we had a nursery to put a crib in. The crib is going to be in our room, and I'm not sure where all the clothes and other baby stuff are going though.
I'm sure the daybed is there for the parents to lay down in when they're getting the baby to sleep.
