Re: TTC Check-In

  • I am expecting AF within the next 6 days.  I have been temping and finally looks like I am ovulating again based on temps.  Since my poison ivy is clearing up and I was put on a steroid cream instead of actual pills I plan to do an IUI in June.  I am excited and nervous about getting the entire process started again.  In the mean time spending all of our time preparing the house for my brothers wedding because we will be having family stay here as well as have been volunteered to have a cookout the day after the wedding in our backyard for all the family coming from out of state.  Still got to get invites out there....

QOTW: I secretly desire to have the drive to work out and be able to be one of those people who is a natural athlete.  I watch all the people running now that the weather is getting good and I want to be one of them so badly but just don't have the drive.  Thank you for good genes so I am naturally slimmer without working out.

  • I am CD 24. I had light bleeding/spotting for four days. This happened during my last cancelled cycle but only for two days. Then I ended up getting to CD 46 before AF showed, with the help of Provera. Since we have our IVF consultation on Wednesday, I'm going to ask then what kind of plan we could make if AF doesn't show by this weekend.

We officially have our money for IVF. We signed all the papers this morning and then took a picture of our check before we deposited it. I figured it might be future baby book material. Unless we come in to money, our potential kid(s) will be 4 at the oldest when we pay off their conception. If he/she/they ever worry if they were wanted, I think that check would be a nice little reminder of how wanted they were/are. I think actually having the money has C excited now. So maybe she will agree to just skipping one cycle and not more than that. I'm not ready to start with this upcoming cycle, but I would like to get started after that.

As much as I hate sitting out cycles, not being in the TWW is a wonderful feeling. While baby making is still rambling through my brain 24/7, I am not agonizing over whether or not I'm pregnant. Instead, I am agonizing over what my IVF protocol might look like :). I did finally set up a therapy appointment. The closest IF counselor to us is an hour away, so I just went with someone local who I am comfortable with. I told him that my issue is IF and he was fine with working with me. My first appointment is June 9th. Since we won't be starting yet, I was fine with waiting. The enormity if what we are about to do started to really hit me last week. I know that I will take it very hard if the first IVF cycle doesn't work. This way I will have already started with him and will have extra support if needed.

QOTW: One secret desire I have always had was to own and run a record label and sign bands. Certainly a far cry from social work, but pretty cool I think. A not so secret desire of mine is to own a ranch with buffalo and elk.

  • Hi everyone!  I'm currently 4 DPO/IUI.  Just scratching the surface of the 2WW.  I'm desperately hoping I have a fertilized egg floating around in my fallopian tubes rolling down towards a nice, nutrient-rich uterus ripe for implantation.

Not much I can do now except wait, and rather impatiently, I might add.  Even though I should be thankful modern technology allows us early pregnancy tests, it still means having to wait at least a week before we get any reliable results at all.  @StacyLH24, indeed, not being in the 2WW must be a relief.  It's nice to know I have a chance, but it sucks not knowing and knowing that I WON'T know for sure for another 7-10 days.  Sigh.

QOTW: I secretly desire to call my friend and beg her to wait a year before moving to Montana with her fiancé (who she barely knows, in my opinion, having only dated once or twice a month in person since last September).  But she's already quit her job, gotten engaged, and is planning a wedding for August.  She found out she's moving to Montana a couple weeks ago because of her fiancé's job.  If she was going anywhere else I wouldn't object so much, but MT is such a remote, inaccessible part of the country.  I just hope this man treats her well, because she's going to have a hell of a time out there otherwise.  I know she's eager to move forward with her life - and I'm eager to see her be happy.  But right now I can't help but think she's riding a wave of euphoria that will quickly dissipate after a couple months of sitting in her cabin away from everything she knows, with a man who she put all her trust in, hoping he won't let her down.

But, it's not my life.  I cannot say anything now.  I can't do anything, really, except be supportive.  Who knows, maybe she'll make lots of friends and really love it out there.  I'll be optimistic for her and keep her in my thoughts.

Montana, though... Ugh!  None of us are mountain girls.  We're delicate Indiana flowers used to hot, sticky summers.  I am sad for her that this will be her last summer here.  I hope Mother Nature brings it for her sake and she can enjoy the heat while she can.  From my understanding, MT is cool and rather arid.  So... many... feelings... And I have to suppress them all.

I'd want her to be strong for me, so I will be strong for her.

Things are moving right along on our IVF journey. Just been following the timeline my RE gave us. Tonight I will take my last BCP. So happy to be done with these for now! I am currently on day 6 of my Lupron shots. Very easy to do but I could go without the side effects. I've had a headache since I started them, very tired, emotional and extra snappy. Keeping reminding L to be patient with me :) We have also been trying to stay focused on other things and L has been staying off of The Bump just to give her mind a break.

I called my RE today and set up my B/US for tomorrow morning. Anxious to see if all my cysts are gone so I can get started on the Gonal F and Menopur. Egg retrieval is still June 2-10 if everything goes okay.

QOTW: I'mAmber&Reva. I secretly/not so secretly wish I had the desire to workout and was a runner. We live on Lake Michigan and all day long I see people running. I dream about being one of them. I have so many friends that run for fun, do marathons and post pictures on FB of their easy 10 mile morning runs. Jealous! I'm not naturally slim, so I know I need to workout. I wish I had the motivation and drive to get started instead of finding excuses not to.

  • @mrs&mrsk I'm CD3 today! Good luck with your IUI!
@StacyLH24‌ everyone keeps telling me not to worry about the money....it's all worth it! It's terrifying to be this much in debt and keep going...we gotta follow our dreams though!
    @wishiwaspreggo‌ love the visual!

I'm on CD3 starting clomid tonight. Great news that my dr dropped her prices by $1k, and now does two IUIs back to back for the price of one! I swear i teared up when they told me! The nurses were also talking about a donor with "super sperm" so I asked the doc for the number of the donor and she have it to me! He fits all of our criteria! So onward and upward to IUI 5 & 6!

  • HollynLeana do you believe in the super sperm thing? reading the boards on calif. cryo there seem to be a couple of donors that got a lot of people preggo but of course the bank says it's random. IDK if i would want to use it either. our donor is retired with only one confirmed pregnancy on the boards (twins) and less than 5 total, this is his first release and only one to follow.  But we chose for the looks and med history etc.

  • @mrs&mrsk we had been choosing on looks and smarts and yada yada....but the doc and nurse say this samples motility was the best they've seen...so I am taking that first hand advice to heart! It just so happens he matches everything we wanted in a donor...this will be our third donor...our first one I loved but his reserve was so small I wanted someone with more options for later for the wifey.

  • we went today (CD10). one ovary had "at least 10" follicles (I think?) and the other had one that was at 10.   Back for more monitoring sunday 7 am (whaaat) then to a wedding then we will get the call in the afternoon with the next step.  I am so impatient! also, i wish we were surging this weekend or at least monday so i didnt have to take off work.

we are already learning what NOT to do if we do another natural cycle.  NOT going in CD3 (pointless! only our Dr does it out of all of them at the RE's office).

  • @mrs&mrsk - you have 10 follies in one ovary for a natural cycle?  I just wanted to make sure that I read that correctly.  Did you get any sizes?  That seems like a ton, especially for a natural cycle and on CD 10.  If you really have 10, you will want to know the sizes before you trigger.  Ideally, with a natural cycle, you should have a lead follie and the rest will absorb.  If they do not for some reason, you will want to know exactly how many you have that are mature.

CD 3 appointments aren't necessarily pointless.  They let them see the antral (sp?) follie count and can help make sure you don't have any cysts.  Certainly, if you are paying OOP then it might make sense to skip that one if possible with natural cycles.  They become more important with medicated cycles.

@Mrs&MrsK why so much monitoring?  I do natural cycles and have no monitoring at all? Other TTC's did you all start out with that much monitoring?  My RE makes me do 3 cycles completely natural before taking any additional measurers.  Now I am wondering if that isn't the normal protocol.

  • We do cd3 monitoring. Helps RE know if you have cyst or anything and to see how your lining had done the previous cycle. RE says it's when things are "calm". Sure never feels that way. We had about 4-5 monitoring appointments this cycle. She went in Wed and thurs. That made a big difference but didn't want to trigger to early.

The other RE in his office is on call this weekend and we like her. We are hoping somebody different to do the iui will be our charm. We have about 7 follicles this time. Scares me that it might work and we get a litter, but RE doesn't seemed worried. To be honest I don't think he thinks this cycle will work either. :/. Staying cautiously optimistic but not holding my breath.

  • Check-In: I'm on CD 17, and Laire is on birth control, waiting to start Synarel on June 1st.  I've been asked to go for a lining check on Thursday by my doctor, since I haven't actually had one yet, and I was supposed to get it done before Laire went on BC, but then her dad died and all our plans went to pot. Laire hates the BC though, she's been having headaches and mood swings, but our GP (not our fertility doctor) says this is normal should go away after she's been using it for a couple of months. But she's not going to be on it for all that long, so it could last the entire time.

QOTW: I think I'm going to change jobs for a while. I love my job normally, but lately I feel like I've not been doing it well enough. I get all these young girls in who got pregnant by their ex-boyfriends, don't have a job, still live at home, and I hate it. It makes me feel a bit sick actually. How come they get to have babies by accident and I have to wait and spend thousands on IVF?
  • we chose to try natural this time. not sure why SO much monitoring. this is our first go... i'm a little confused because idk if we are triggering and if not, we would have to monitor daily to see when the surge comes? from what other people told me.... they basically call you at 2pm when they get bloodwork back and tell you what to do next.

StacyLH24 i had 10 follies on the left but very small, right was hiding but we could see one that she measured @ 10 mm.  this is only day 10 who knows what will disappear/ change by day 13 when we go back.

  • @mrs&mrsk go to drugstore and by ovulation predictor kit. I like the ones with smily faces. :) clear blue I think. They will be with preg. Tests. Pee on stick 1-2 times day ( morning/night) as you get close to when you think you ovulate. We usually start at day 10-12 in case it comes early. Our RE has us call as SOON as it is positive. This is WAY cheaper than daily monitoring. They say follicles grow 2mm per day. Not sure if any of this helps you. If you trigger then you will do that between 34-40 hrs. Before iui based on doc recommendation.

  • Our RE won't trigger us until our largest is at least 18. Seems to be 18-22 is best.

Are you paying out of pocket for all monitoring or co pays??? That would make a big difference in my book.

    10 medicated IUI's (3 with injectables).
IUI #1 (medicated) Jan. 2013-BFP!!!!- Beta's didn't double, MTX shot for possible ectopic.

  • copays at $50 a pop.  maybe $100 if they charge separately  for blood + sono but probably not.
initially $20 but we will be billed the additional $30 per once my insurance kicks it back and they bill DWs (my secondary)

  • I used OPK and would use second pee of the morning as suggested by my RE. Used Clearblue(?) digital.  The one with the smileys.  I didn't have any monitoring at all other then the original RE visit just to check and make sure I was fertile.  I would call day one of my period and then again the day I got the positive on the OPK and go in the next day for IUI.  I am not sure if this was the protocol because it was the cheapest way to do it being that we pay completely out of pocket.

I guess the next step would be additional monitoring.  We never got the opportunity to discuss what comes next because we were one of the lucky ones the first time around.  FX this time we have the same luck because I am terrified of going on any meds because even having a chance of multiples would be horrible for my body which couldn't even handle carrying one.

  • Checking in. AF this morning which was a bummer, but we have two more vials left, so hoping that next month (IUI #5, and our second try with Clomid) is a win for us. The progesterone gave me a lot of symptoms that made me hope for BFP. Sigh.

QOTW: This morning, I'm secretly desiring that we could cancel all of our weekend plans and just stay home. We have fun stuff on the agenda and I'm sure that the distraction and being around friends will be good for me, but it's been an exhausting month.

  • @MoreTacosPlease‌ - So sorry about your BFN. I found the progesterone helpful in the TWW because I knew that's what my symptoms were from. It helped me to not symptom watch at all.

Have you ever posted an intro on this board? I don't remember one, but I could have missed it. If not, feel free to create a new thread and introduce yourself. I'm not sure if everyone here reads the TTC Check-In. There is a ton of support here!

  • Here is my very late check in :)

Ashley second IUI was on 5/6 with all the issues this cycle had from the start I wasnt really happy about going in for the IUI but I was supporting Ashley VS really wanting to cancel the cycle. But even with all the issues blood work was done a week later and confirmed ovulation but her progesterone was a little low so they started progesterone gel. Granted the timing for the IUI was really off we still didnt have high hopes about it working, but the nurse kept telling us sperm can live in the body for up to 3 days. Because we werent so confident it didnt feel like a TWW it just felt like normal life noting to look forward too. Ashley went for her Beta this past Thursday and as we had already thought BFN. So she stopped the progesterone and we are just waiting for AF.

I am so looking forward to a new cycle much a much better plan Clomid and trigger shot.

  • @kristi&p - I'm sorry that you both got another BFN. Are you using frozen sperm? If so, my understanding is that it only survives about 24 hours or less in our body. Fresh I think is a little longer, but I don't think 3 days. For straight couples trying at home, they are told to have sex every other day around ovulation time...so that tells me that by day 3, there wouldn't be many, if any, still alive. Timing is so crucial. I'm sorry that you have had so many problems at your office.
